So have we definitively established that Fred was a coach like every other? He is in fact a man not a handsome god clothed in cardinal and gold?

It is you that doesn't get this is a business. Nothing personal against Fred, but I don't give a **** about his well-being, only ISU MBB's. Don't be petty, it isn't personal. I am sure Fred the person is a great guy, but Fred the head coach is all that matters.
Given his inability to execute the responsibilities of the job the last two months, it is great that he left. Nothing personal, but business wise coming back should not have been an option without revisions to his contract. Hiring a new coach next year to cleanup his recruiting without the benefit of this upcoming year would be even worse than this transition. In hindsight he probably stayed 1 year too long given his inability to recruit with "integrity".
Looking forward to seeing what improvements the new coach can get out of this group, and how recruiting will go with a coach that knows how to play the game.

Right....the same people telling us it is a business are the same ones that complain about anyone who dares to not be thrilled at how much he loves Iowa State despite not wanting to coach here.
He's both apparently. We're supposed to revere him as a handsome cardinal and gold god but also accept that we're not worthy. At least that seems to be the loudest opinion.
Hoiberg left because of all you people who worshipped him. Coaching was not a challenge for him in ames because he only had to have decent years and everyone would have a crush on him. He did not need to win a championship or go the final four to appease the fans but in Chicago nothing short of a championship will appease the fans and he likes the challenge. That is why he said he did not want to go to another college except he may consider one the blue bloods he just didnt tell the sheeple that. The truth is he hates coaching in ames because expectations ate too low. So congradulations isu fans; you have no one to blame but yourself for hoiberg leaving.

Not even related to this issue, but what you wrote is an exact description of Iowa State fans in almost every situation. We all think we don't deserve good things.
All of that could be true, but it still doesn't mean Hoiberg had any actual desire to take that job. He wanted a more competitive contract at ISU. He nearly said as much in his press conference today.
This truly is a glass half full fan base for a lot of us.
You only have to look at coaching names that have been written. Too many want so and so back....blah. Ames is a FINE (however small) town with a rabid fan base. ISU is in a Power 5 conference (for now) and isn't at the bottom of basketball facilities.
Ames High aims high. Why can't the ISU fans. This is a desired job stacked with talent.

The vast majority of people who follow bball can't remember or name 5 NBA coaches. But they can name 5 college coaches. The NBA goes thru coaches like I go thru cans of skoal. It's a players league. If Blatt wins the title this year nobody is going to care it's all going to be about Lebron. Hell Blatt will prob get fired after this year..what does that tell u. Hoiberg wins the NC at Isu and I can assure you the national attn would be 10x the amount.
