Hindsight Ohio Game

The more I see the season unfold, I think Ohio was a hell of a lot more about a bunch of guys being sick as dogs and probably in no shape to play.
Remember reading Rocco was puking in a trash can. If JJ isn't ready would of liked to see the Juco get a shot. If he wasn't sick as well of course.

Add in Ohio being a pretty solid team and the result isn't that shocking.

I can't imagine playing much of any sport in that kind of condition.

I'd take the 5 wins every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Not a big believer in something like that being the difference in these games more than a month later.

Big picture is that if you get to a bowl anyways it wasn't a big deal. Just very painful to watch at the time.

As pissed as anyone at the time, but starting to think its was a plus and would a turn around happen if not for that day. Think it set the tone for the rest of the season.
Since quite a few players were playing while puking, I wouldn't read too much into that game. This team has a lot of underclassmen playing significant minutes. Players have gained a lot of valuable experience and are starting to use that new experience to play better. I fully expected this team to have substantial growth during this season, and we are starting to see this growth

Maybe, but there is no doubt the offensive strategy is different now. I don't think that change happens as quickly or is as drastic if ISU doesn't lose that game. Sometimes you gotta lose the battle to win the war.

I think both can be true. I absolutely think having so many players sick hurt the team. And I think that the loss helped move things forward with some coaching.

There’s been some talk that maybe Rocco was a bit streaky in fall camp. So that probably hurt the coaching.

But—-and this is important for those that ***** about coach speak—-Campbell has made some insightful comments about how he was coaching tentative.

Agreed. Also believe Campbell had Rocco's big mistake/pick-six against Iowa on the top of is mind heading into the Ohio game, which probably condensed the playbook a bit. Likely didn't want things to snowball confidence wise, but ended up throwing two INT's anyway (none of which, arguably, were on Rocco).

From what I heard regarding the illness Ohio game weekend, it had affected every position group by kick-off.

I think it is possible Iowa State figures out their stuff without the Ohio loss. In other words, in hind sight, I still wish we'd have won that game.
Agree. It was and still is a bad loss. Only Cyclone fans would try to justify it. Doesn’t matter who was sick. Doesn’t matter how “young” we are. Gotta win that game. That one was on the staff.

Tell the players not to have norovirus?
Lol. Win, survive and advance. Or is it lose, make excuses, go home? A day like that is when a coaching staff making a collective $5-6M dollars needs to be able to find a way. They didn't and it may be the difference in this season being viewed as good or bad.

2 more wins and its swept away. If not, is a glaring miss.

So 5 wins bad, 6 wins good?

If they win that one but don't make a bowl, which loss would be the worst thing CMC has done?

Yes. After a whiff last year, a bowl game is a needed, and would be a great step forward.

Probably one of the UNI losses, or the Louisiana in Ames.

Serious question - Where are you reading this information about high player counts with norovirus? I haven’t seen that printed anywhere except CF. I did see one online article which suggested five players with food poisoning, but provided no details. Is this rumor or has it been substantiated?

It was reported on during the game. Harklau specifically mentioned Rocco puking during halftime.
