Hilton magic is dead

If you think this year is bad, wait till next year when Prohm will have to play his guys. Yikes.
Addition by subtraction. I think he caters to much to these guys because they are seniors. No way in hell naz or Burton would be allowed to stay on the floor as long as they do as bad as they are most nights.

Not anywhere near dead, but my better half did comment in the waning minutes: "Nice support, Cyclone fans." in reaction to the apparently entirely empty sections.

No, I don't, and Virginia proved that. They themselves imploded the next round but player to player they were better at pretty much every position with exception to Niang, but they basically just let him do his thing while making everyone else beat them, which they couldn't. The game turned into a highlight reel for VA, and they don't play flashy.

The '13-14 team was the last FF capable team but that was also because every other Sweet 16 team was fairly even. '14-15 was Sweet 16ish but that would require playing well two games in a row, which they rarely did.*

*PLEASE don't revert to the 'roll' they were on in the Big 12 tourney. It was double digit come backs and some much needed luck.

So your logic is that because a team gets knocked out in the Sweet 16, this means that they weren't Final Four caliber? Can't say I agree with that. Sure, Virginia had our number that night, but that doesn't take away the talent we had with that team. Last years team was LOADED with talent. Hell, our starting line-up had 2 NBA draft picks and one of the nation's top point guards. Without question last year's roster was Final Four caliber.

So, he has missed a few shots and you conclude that he "isn't very good" anymore. Of course, he is a role player. And a pretty good one. He just missed a few shots and you bail on him. Makes me wonder if you really ever were "a huge fan of him."
You just made my point for me. He's a role player! he's not the stud that everyone keeps telling themselves that he is. He tries to do too much and he's lost his shot.

Then why do you keep posting about him? You keep contradicting yourself by saying hes a role player, which I think everyone agrees on, but then you bash him for being a role player and not being all Big 12 this year.

He's doing what hes been doing the last 5 years here, I dont know why you are expecting anything more of him.

No, he's absolutely NOT doing what he has done the last 5 years. He's is in a completely different role this year and he obviously is not comfortable. I've not said anything that is contradicting, go back and read my posts.

Keep on believin'.

A team like Virginia would have had ISU's number any night.

Something something sum of parts and whole and that's why a team like Virginia wins every time, and that's why there's a big gap, which is pretty typical historically at ISU. Not a bad thing--it's fun if ISU puts together a run here and there and occasionally has a real legit team...it's just not as often as people want it to be.

He's averaging 15 points a game, by far his career high. I honestly dont know what your issue is with him. He also has career highs in a number of other categories. His 3-point percentage has been down which I assume is your main beef with him. He's never been a spectacular 3-point shooter anyways, 40% was his career high, far from a Tyrus Mcgee level.

So tell us what hes not doing this year that has made him so successful every other year hes been here, but all of a sudden hes awful?

Just stop, I dont remember reading any posts on here where people were saying he was going to be some stud that would lead us to a Big 12 title this year. If anybody did they obviously havent been following basketball very long.

Hilton Magic is not dead. I lived through the McDermott years where we had to scratch and claw and still couldn't get to .500. Hilton Magic is a lot like the President of the United States...it is larger than any one man. At least I hope so.

The amount of time it takes to get into our offense is starting to remind me of McDermott. For a senior laden team and second year in the system it is a little concerning.

Don't put words in my mouth! I did NOT say he was awful and I'm stating that he is a role player not a starter that should be averaging 35 minutes a game. His minutes need to be thinned out and get Jackson more involved as well as Babb. I think Naz could be a solid energy guy off the bench and yes, his inability to knock down the 3 this year has hurt us. He's attempted 67 3's since conference play has started and he's shooting 31%. Not horrible but not great for a volume shooter.

Jackson yes, Babb no. Babb isnt good, and far from the best NBA prosepct on the team like Prohm was making hims out to be over the summer.

I'm sorry but Prohm isnt about to bench our 2nd leading scorer to come off the bench, regardless of how much you think hes struggling.

OMG! ISU IS HAVING AN AVERAGE YEAR! EVERYBODY PANIC!

We're in the top half of one of the best conferences in CBB. Get the **** outta here.
Is the Big 12 really great? I noticed 2, maybe 3 teams that I would call elite at the top. But along with Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Tech and TCU, we are mired in a cesspool of teams that are going to be in the 6-11 seed range and primed for first round exits come March

The Big 12/SEC challenge was an eye opener in this regard. Before that I thought the Big 12 was elite. After watching the performances there, however, I think I'll replace the word elite with "competitive". Depth might even be replaced with "derpth" unfortunately. Can't imagine anyone is shaking in their boots to face Iowa State, TCU, or Kansas State teams that lost to SEC schools that will be fortunate to make the NIT.

These Big 12 games are fun to watch though.

How's about he get better shots closer in? Despite being 6'4" won't post up, doesn't like contact...

It's to be expected. There's been a major bandwagon effect for the past three years. Looking forward to getting back in to the season ticket pool in the next couple of years.

Cant wait to see where hoiberg ends up after the bulls. I am thinking an SEC school. Glad we haven't put up that statue of him yet even though I am sure if we did there would be many adorers of that golden hoiberg statue. I heard though there are going to make commemorative coins with prohms face to build hype in the off season. do you think we will actually run an offense next year?

It will take more than one less than good season to ruin Hilton Magic....relax!

I am very willing to give Prohm at least a couple more years to get his guys in place, and see what he can do. My main concern with him right now is what I see with his in-game moves with the rotation and leaving guys on the floor when they are clearly not producing or are out of control too often (Burton).

I give Prohm something of a pass still because he is still dealing with mostly Fred guys.....and who knows what is in there head? Do they accept Prohm as the coach, or are they still wishing Fred was here? It is also clear that Naz is not the player he was a couple of years ago. I'm not sure if he is still not 100% healthy or if he just was unable to get his outside shooting skills back for whatever reason. But, he has regressed from what he was at one time.

I also give Prohm a pass because the plan was to have both Lard and Malou on the floor for this season. Unfortunately, we all know what happened there. Now, if he could have done more to get those situations to work out in ISU's favor, I don't know.........but he did have the players committed, and and no one can say that those two guys would likely not make a substantial difference for this team.

I'm much more disappointed in the performance and inconsistency of multiple experienced senior players on this team than I am in the coaching staff. There is no reason these guys should be playing this poorly, imho.
