I actually think we have a much better chance to run the table than we did last year. Think about it, we don't have Ohio State or Wisconsin. I would argue they are the two most talented teams in the conference. That is huge.

We return a lot of our line and talent at WR, TE, and RB. Our QB is big and talented. He doesn't have the experience of Stanzi but he may be more talented. You also know that our defense will be very good as Norm always does a fantastic job. Plus with Norm back we shouldn't have any off games like last year.

Tenn Tech - easy win
@Clowns - easier win
Pitt - they have talent but we play them at home and they have 1st year coach WIN
Louis Mon - easy win
@PSU - tough game but Kirk owns them!
Northwestern - toughest home game but it is at home and we are due!
Indiana - cakewalk
@ Minn - get revenge from last year
Mich - at home and their defense can't stop anyone. Robinson will be hurt by this point
MSU - I feel much better with this being at home. Plus we own Cousins
@ Purdue - cakewalk
@ Nebraska - we get to this point in the season at 11-0 and at this point we have the division rapped up. We have a lot more to play for than Nebraska and we go in there and win!

I'm calling it now 12-0 baby!!!

:biglaugh: Let's check back with that poster after the Minnesota game. I bet they will find a way to have a couple losses by then.

it's douches like that guy who make them so easy to hate. I would love to (figuratively) smack the arrogant smirk off their GED, pimple faces with a defeat at Jack Trice. That will ruin their precious national title hopes.

How quickly they forget how disappointing their season was last year - and they lost a bunch of NFL talent.

If you wanted to run the table... wouldn't you want to play the known powers in your conference?

I dont understand the: we are not suppose to be good, I dont expect much out of this team, so we are going to be good; line a lot of Iowa fans are saying.

It is somewhat unfair to use this idiot as the example for this thread. Yeah, he started it, but when I last checked (last night, I guess), he was the only pulling the 12-0 line, with most (if not all) the rest of the posters calling him an idiot. I do remember one guy saying "It's fans like you that make the rest of us look bad", which is true. Of course, I can't check the thread now because the ISP here blocks HN as it is a "sports" site. It doesn't block CF though.

I think it has to do with the fact that the Hawks definitely don't do well when they are expected to, and apparently blow past expectations when they aren't supposed to. For example, in 2009, I don't think too many people started the year thinking we had a shot at winning the Big Ten outright, or going to a BCS game. 2010...well, you know what the expectations were, and what the final results were. Anyway, I think that's led to the thinking that lower expectations -> exemplary results. Or something.

And it annoys the fricking hell of me as well. I understand how fandom works, but if you tell me you will be good you better give me a reason a hell of a lot better than "we suck so we will be good". That's all I ask.

I think it is a misguided observation of correlation without causation. It happened twice. That is hardly a trend. Iowa is past the underrated phase and they can't count on it like they could before. Also, choking when there are high expectations doesn't mean you will do well with low expectations.

I had a facepalm and a double facepalm. :D

I realize we have little to no shot at OU, but that is one game, not 12. Anything can happen on any given Saturday. What chance did you give the Clones @ Texas last year after they got blown out by Utah and OU and UT had just handled NU in Lincoln?

Not even close in comparison imo.

It's pretty obvious that Wassabe is NOT representative of the entire fanbase. He's pretty well-documented as a loony, and I think maybe one other poster agreed with him in that thread. Everyone else said he was crazy/posted facepalms/etc.

Last year it wasn't crazy to predict 12-0. It wasn't probable, but it wasn't Chuck Manson nuts, either. Calling 12-0 this year is Chuck Mason nuts.

Iowa is not going 12-0. If we go 10-2, I would be absolutely ecstatic.

Good lord ... do you honestly believe that that is a representative fan post? One data point makes a trend ... right?! :psmile:

Unfortunately that seems to be the case more often than not. And it's not exclusive to this board by any means.
For the record, I predicted 8-4 for Iowa this season.

I was picking squarely between 9 and 10 wins as the most likely scenario before ... however, between some of our preseason injury issues and the injury to McCall, I'd say that a 8-4 prediction seems pretty accurate to me.

The Hawks could always win more or less ... but the sample path doesn't always have to perfectly match a probabilistic prediction.

No shot. Absolutely zero shot Iowa State beats Oklahoma. Texas was a 5 win team last year, a lot of teams beat them.

Iowa has a schedule that sets up nicely for them.

I see them finishing anywhere form 8-4 to 10-2

Shouldn't fans have a right to show extreme optimism on their own message boards? It is not like the guy came on this site and said the cyclones will suck; he just made a projection that any fan(atic) would wish for their team, even if the odds are pretty slim of it coming to fruition.
