Heisman Trophy malaise

If Caleb Williams wins it after transferring, that will seem contrary to the award’s main tenants.

Is transferring a bad thing now?

Were you mad when Joe Burrow or Baker Mayfield won? They were transfers.

It is for the Most Outstanding Player in College Football. That should be Caleb Williams.

I can remember the ceremony being quite a big deal. It was before social media and there was still some intrigue to who won it. But between the result being pretty pre-determined anymore and it becoming an award for the best skill player on the best team, I can't say I've watched in the last 5-7 years or so.

I don't follow My awards now. Heisman, Grammys, Oscars, Nobel Prizes....totally meaningless

I think it lost its prestige when it stopped going to (arguably) the best player and started going to the best player that was the quarterback for a blue blood program in contention for the national title. Or, if that wasn't an option, the best player who was a running back for a blue blood program in contention for the national title.

Honestly, it started to wobble a little in the 90s with some questionable winners:
  • 1992: Gino Torretta over Marshall Faulk
  • 1995: Eddie George over Tommie Frazier
  • 1996: Danny Wuerffel of Troy Davis

It loses muster every time a Stetson Bennett type gets an invitation over someone more deserving. Is it best player or best player on the best team? Because in either case, Stetson Bennett is neither. He’s an SEC throw in because it just means more and there had to be one, I guess. When they invited three Bama players to one, I just laughed.

Caleb Willams should win this award in a landslide, the people getting off him based off 1 game where he got injured is the problem with the award. Duggan had a great year, Will probably finish 2nd but I would have him 3rd behind Hooker who might of won it if not for injury.

Some of the ballots coming through are comical especially by locals. Dochterman tweeted and since deleted he voted Hooker 1 which I would respect as top 4 but 1 crazy. Chad Leistikow had Mo Ibrahim 2nd which should probably end the Register right now that so embarrassingly bad.

Hell I’m surprised they didn’t vote for Petras.

Has Chris said how he voted yet?

I haven't heard much about the fact that 3 of the 4 Heisman finalists lost their most recent games. Has that ever happened before?

How about the winner having lost his most recent game?

I don't really care about this discussion or award at all. I just want to point out the flaw in your argument when you complain it's about the 'best player on the best team' and the next sentence complain that 3 players on the same team made it one year.
