Going to bowl games is not an acurate predictor of success in college football, but it is better than not going. Half the teams in Div.I go to bowl games. That was McCarney's proudest achievement. Getting to average in going to bowl games.

If WM was so effective, why is he still pedaling satellite dishes in Ames?
I loved what WM did for us, but I never thought he was the long term solution at the HC position.
I don't think anybody really did - but I don't see the need to tear him down over that fact. He did a pretty good job while he was here and there is no reason to diminish that.
I've been drinking and only read the first post.
Basically, what it comes down to is that is change really going to make the athletic department that much worse? Our programs aren't anything to write home about. Drastic changes may not work, but why not ******* try and hit a home run? It may not work, but at least we're going up to the plate with a plan in mind and a goal to hit one out of the ****in park.
The answer is YES it can get worse and has. When Pollard took over the men's basketball team was in the NCAA Tournament and the football team was on the way to their 5th bowl game in six years. Where are both program snow? In the tank.
Say what you want to about BVDV, but our greatest success came under him in basketball and our first bowl win and top 25 finish came under him in football. WBB advanced deeply in the dance. The programs didn't sustain the kind of success we wanted under him but we had the most success we've ever tasted with him as athletic director.
This is the most unfair jab at Morgan in my opinion - I agree it appeared his teams may not have been giving their best effort at times but I could argue about several games we watched this year that it looked like not a single guy on the floor gave a crap. First half Nebraska for a good example.

I would say we were more confused at times this year than a lack of effort. Sure there were times where we didn't play with the intensity that it takes to win but I thought it was minimal. As for the Nebraska game, we came out flat, corrected it at half time and won. I don't see the problem? I don't have anything against Wayne Morgan and I appreciate what he did for the program I just think McDermott is a better man for the job.
it was so much more fun to watch wayne morgans teams than it is to watch mcdermotts teams, i want mcdermott to get guys like stinson, blalock, and clark. i wish mcdermott would recruit a point guard from new york, cause there is always so much talent out of ny, like johnny flynn, levance fields, russel robinson, and a lot others. morgan always seemed to recruit very well on the east coast, and that showed with blalock, stinson, and clark, i can't wait till we are good in basketball and football again
If Wayne's teams were so "much fun"...How come "The Hilton Coliseum" was half empty??
Waiting for an answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So how come it's "confusion" when it's a McD coached team and not "lack of effort". I'm sorry, Drake then, when we were completely outclassed and there was no effort on any level.
I just think McD gets a pass on a lot of things that Morgan continually gets raked over the coals about.

I just get tired of having to argue with the "status quo" folks every couple of weeks that are just as happily mired in mediocrity as a pig is rolling around in mud.
