Loney. For the very reason he is not high profile and will be loyal. Put the money in great coordinators and the best recruiters. Its time for Jamie to go he has done too much damage and pissed off to many. If Gene returns next year so be it; I buy season tickets to see a game not a coach. It doesn't matter who is at the helm, just win!

I think I would like a Loney hire, but I wouldn't see it happening.

I watched Mason his last few years here in Minnesota, he was basically the equivalent of McCarney. He took Minnesota from terrible to OK, with several trips to low-end bowl games. Mason rarely beat any of the top Big Ten teams, and usually had several terrible losses every year. I believe one year they gave up 28 points to Michigan in the 4th quarter. Mason was also not well liked by most of the fans and the media. I would much rather ISU take a flyer on an up and coming coach than go after Mason. My 2 cents.
His assistants disliked him as well.

Hopefully he stays one more year and then leaves, Weis will be out at Notre Dame about halfway through next year. Might as well get the publicity and the recruiting he will bring.

Loney isn't high profile enough for our AD. He wants a flashy name.

:skeptical:Our AD is turning out to be a joke. He's a rookie. OJT. It is now established that he has made some terrible decisions. McDermott is not a national recruiter and will not get the Big 12 type talent needed to compete. Moreover, his style of play will not attract major talent. He's a MOValley coach at best who never won the conference title, only a tourney title. He's a class act but this is the big time and I do not see the talent level coming in to win in the BIG 12. Chizik was the wrong hire because he is Tim Floyd type commitment mistake. A deep south guy connected with major programs in the south and no desire to stay. Why would Chizik ever want to stay at ISU? He is a guy that has never done a head coaching job by taking less and doing more. That is the type of coach we need at ISU. Pollard also fired our track coach. Does anyone really think ISU is ever going to be a track powerhouse? On top of all these bad hires, Pollard has confused the fan base by extorting major fees via ISU club memberships and brainwashing people to believe that more money means more success. That is the reverse axiom that we need. The fan base needs motivation to pay more. That motivation is success not hope. We need to get the train moving down the track with a new common sense approach. Fire Pollard and start over with a guy's whose heart is committed to ISU.

Here's where I have a problem with your post. What do you want, a loyalist or someone that will bail at a better position? It's highly unlikely that you'll have both. And there is another thread talking about JP by the way.

And Yes, I'll eat crow with my earlier posts. I truly believed that Chizik would turn down the job and had no problem with him interviewing. I still hope that he will turn it down but it seems like he won't. But if he does, I haven't lost any respect from him.

Yeah, a smaller budget is what we need.

IMO, if Chiz leaves, ISU needs to go big or go home. If they are serious about becoming an "up and coming program" like JP claims they are, they need a big hire. Dont have the money? Come up with it because youve promise all of your loyal season ticket holders that are such great Cyclone fans that this program is on the rise and you owe it to them. Anyone who says Chiz wont leave because of his record here isnt looking at the bigger picture. Had Chizik had Auburns players this year, he would have been very successful. I feel bad for all of the Cyclone football players who attended the banquet last week and were told by Chizik how much of a familly the team was. This is a family with a promiscuous daddy who like sleeping around with the town hooker. Alright that might have been a bit harsh, but seriously. This is completely contradictory to Gene's values that he has preached since he stepped foot on the campus.

I honestly think the coaching search will be a disaster. Pollard got a head start two years and pulled in Chizik. He'll be extremely late to the game this time around, not to mention I'm not so sure there is a short list ready.
