Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

I have never exactly seen eye to eye with Paul and have engaged in some verbal linguistics with him on more than one occasion on his site. Nothing hostile, I just don't care for what I feel is a lot of very faulty logic on his part and his patrons typically share the party line. He does have a unique online "persona" and is very one sided when evaluating things at least it seems to me. I don't mind fan bias, but I expect a little give and take from a guy in his position. I also think his piece (though I avoided reading it for fear I’d have a jerky response about it) flag waving the demise of the Iowa program in lieu of a rape trial and ISU's need to "strike" was in very poor taste.

Now with all that said, he very obviously bleeds cardinal & gold. So even though he is obviously bitter it seems he probably didn't miss to far from the mark on a lot of what he said. It is a tick convenient that he has a platform to speak his mind without much critique, but I read on the Iowa board of all things he hasn't been bashful about expressing his anxt in private. It is also understandable, even commendable that he didn't say it in print before hand. I've always been one to give people a lot of rope on things like this (Chizik) as we are all looking to move up and we don't really no what people are really thinking, saying or feeling. However some of the things that he said, if true make me quizzical to say the least.

Finally and not to be a jerk, but it really does put into perspective how careful we should be at calling other people or situations out when you never know how things might turn for you. Just last fall he was giddy about Iowa’s demise and just last week I had commentary with a few on here about how unethical Iowa's guys are and how great ISU‘s were. My feeling is but for the Grace of God go us all and our fortunes can all turn immediately south in a blink. Have Faith though here, as it truly seems to me like ISU may actually have come out the better in this deal.

I think he bleeds money green.

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

Isn't Paul's article condemning the AD that hired Chizik?

Resoundingly yes. JP hired him. I don't know how he catches a break. I thinkJ P is the man for the job but he made a bad hire.

We need to hire one of our own... Steve Loney.

1. We wouldn't need to recruit much for skill players, our line play would be unstoppable.

2. He wouldn't leave us... he is a Cyclone.

3. He is Steve freakin Loney.

Perhaps, but it looked pretty good on paper and most of the people on this site were estatic when it was announced.

We should all approach the failure of others with humility, but it is hard sometimes. I think that ISU may end up a lot better in the long (maybe short run). I am REALLY excited to see who we get.

We need a coach that can go get players, now. Loney hasnt coached college in years or recruited anyway. His 2 stints at HC didnt work out to well. He hasnt had much succes in the NFL.

I'll tell you what, the guy must be one HELL of an interview. How else could he parlay 5 wins in 2 years into a job at Auburn?

It really wasn't a hard hire for JP. When he was hired, he was considered one of the top assistant coaches in the country, and one of the top candidates for ANY head coaching spot. You really can't put this on JP, especially considering Chizik was his second choice...

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

Very thought provoking article. Honestly I think the piece should give us all a little to think about because I think there is some real truth in parts of it.

Look at Texas' defense...when UT won the NC with chiz none of those players were chiziks. The next year after being in gene's system another year the defense (especially the pass D..hmmm) took several steps backward to the very vocal dismay of the UT fanbase. Gene has never won with players he recruited and coached for more than a year or two. Is it a suprise that once Mustchamp(sp) became UT's DC that the overall tenacity of the defense and team as a whole changed dramatically for the better?

Can anyone really say that Bolt/McFarland impressed them from day one until the last day? I'm really starting to feel myself that this was a blessing in disguise.

All we have to do is find a solid coach who will keep this team in tact and keep as many commits in the fold as possible and we will be in fine shape.

If he was the second choice, what really happened in the interview process?

Steely eye Gene. The eyes of Sauron.

It was stated in another thread, but I can definitely understand missing it on a day like this:wink:

Brian Kelly was the first choice, but he was waiting around for the Michigan State job. By the time he got back to JP, he had missed his deadline and they had already agreed to a deal with Chizik.

And now you know.....the rest of the story:wink:

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

Man, quite the rant in that article.... though well thought out (for a rant)

I'm not going to lie... I'm not 100% sad that Chizik is leaving. I was really excited when he was hired, but after the last 2 seasons the honeymoon was wearing off. I wasn't ready to throw him out yet, but for all the freak'n delay of game penalties, illegal formation/player on the field crap, it was becoming apparent that player talent wasn't our only problem. At all... especially since there was no improvement (regression if anything) with those problems

So I do agree, this kinda sucks a bit now but we're probably better off restarting now

Re: Next head coach?

That's funny because I was reading the Auburn boards and they kept saying we need to hire the best available coach and the responses were Tuberville. I am guessing they are kicking themselves for letting Tommy go.

Yeah, let us just swap coaches.

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

Paul hit it right on. I suspect he didn't like GC, but that probably stemmed from a lack of access. I agree with a lot of it. I want our next coach to have head coaching experience, and a desire to be at ISU for a while, as long as both sides are happy. I don't want a mercenary type, and no coordinators!

Well the only southern guy who I ever saw stick around up north is Hayden Fry. I think you stay away from Tubberville.

Gotta admit, he could really just stick it to Auburn by doing such a thing. What kind of justice would that be if he came to ISU and succeeded, and Chizik flopped at Auburn.

Tuberville is an outstanding coach that got ****ed over by Jay Jacobs.
