Hawks Represented In Weed Line

In line early. Nice lineup of buyers. They DO wear their gear.... everywhere.
Is it just me or does anyone find it odd that many people are all messing with this? I don’t think it’s that hard or that much hassle to get your hands on marijuana if you really want it...

Ha, yeah, I find it quite ridiculous actually. I live in Schaumburg, if I wanted to get some weed, I could get it in about 10 minutes. If I wanted to go through the hassle of getting it legally, it's probably a 45 minute round trip from where I live, not to mention the line to wait. I assume with these people, it's the novelty of being able to buy it legally.

I was in CO over the summer and I'm not really a weed guy, so the novelty wore off pretty quickly for me out there. Now I wasn't there when CO went legal, so I don't know what the logistics were for them and how hard or how easy it was to get your hands on legal weed on day one, but it seems to me that Illinois was really not well prepared at all for what was coming. Or, Illinois just didn't really care, because it was far from being even moderately accessible.

I know Schaumburg has it approved for 5 dispensaries to open here, but I only know that from an article from October, when the city council approved them. Since then, there hasn't been one peep of when anything will open, where they will open or if anyone is even planning on opening.

Now, I didn't assume that dispensaries would be like Starbucks on Day one, but I certainly figured I'd see more than the handful that were around the Chicago area.

I haven't really looked into it much, but everything I'm hearing is that the taxes are so expensive, that the black market will still be a preferred method for many. In fact, my two friends who do smoke a lot, have been pissed since legalization passed. They say it will probably cut into the supply and definitely raise the prices all over. So there is that. The only thing they are happy about is that getting caught with it, isn't an issue any more.

It's not just you. Most anyone you talk to just rolls their eyes and laughs. They've seen the news reports. Stand in a line that long, pay 3 or 4 times street price, plus tax. But you can get one heck of a taco at the food truck parked nearby. First day police were busting purchasers in the parking lot who bought it and lit up. This is right next to Southern Dist State Police HQ.

Long lines and stupid prices is how it is in every legal state at first. Lines will dwindle and prices will slowly drop over time. When it's finally legal in Iowa, I'll be in line day 1 waiting forever and paying too much even though I could get it faster and cheaper elsewhere. Just a part of history I want to be a part of I guess.

Ya, prices come down pretty rapidly once supply catches up with demand. That being said, CO is still way overpriced in my opinion compared to the PNW. My family that lives in CO said that a lot of production in their area is focused on hemp for CBD and textiles so that could be why.

Do you get a package? Like I'm wondering if somebody has a prescription, why wouldn't you just buy from the street? I mean if you get stopped, do you have to show a receipt? What would prevent you from using the first receipt and buy the rest off the street. Obviously I'm clueless here, but curious.
