Not sure what the name of the show is, and I wasn't aware one existed until I was on my way to church tonight around 6:30 and caught Jon Miller, Zabel, and some other kool-aid drinker on WHO. The only part I heard, they were making excuses about losing to us and Western Michigan last year. I don't remember the reason for losing to WM, but Miller thought he should point out that it took a hail mary on our part to beat them last year.
Apparently he forgot that they put a slow linebacker out to cover one of the best athletes on our team and the QB audibled to a fly route for him. Zabel thought it necessary to point out that if the same hawk team that showed up this past Saturday would have been out on the field against WM, they would have beat them.
Typical hawk excuses. Always a reason other than "The other team was better than us"

Does Zabel even attend games anymore??

He seems to know so much still considering he's 187 years old.

Anyway, I love listening to the show. You have Zabel claiming ridiculous things like him creating fire and Miller sits there and agrees with everything thinking the guy walks on water.

They provide little very little actual sports talk. They just parade around like cheerleaders and the fans eat it up.

Goes like this.....

"I believe the Hawks would win more if they could score more, and (insert gibberish). Go Hawks!! (Crowd goes wild)

Great show indeed.

Kinda reminds me of these guys but without the humor... Oh and beer since Miller gave up drinking.

I'm not really sure which one that is insulting...

With all due respect.. Zabel sounds like a drooling monkey while Miller is at least tolerable until he goes on some stupid rant, or rah rah's for all the other drooling monkeys

it isn't how they talk, mumble or rant... it is want that say.. I can't tell the difference..

If it went the other way, that Iowa scored on a bomb to beat ISU......you dont think ISU would say the same excuse?

LSU play: FLUKE.

I rate them the opposite.

Zabel attended and graduated from UI. Miller did not.

Zabel is (was) a journalist who wrote for a newspaper and broadcast sports news on TV and radio. Miller is an interweb/blogger/message board type (not a journalist in my book) and his radio show consists of spreading internet rumors and taking calls.

Miller goes on the occasional stupid rant (as you describe it). Zabel does not. Of course Zabel has seen a lot more highs and lows and has a lot more experience and maturity.

Zabel attended home & away games and broadcast every Iowa football game for almost 50 years. Not only has Miller never broadcast games, he doesn't even attend them.

Even those who do not like Zabel's homer-ism have to respect his dedication and the length of his career. ISU would do well to find a young dedicated promotor/broadcaster to become the voice of the Cyclones who might someday be instantly known and recognized by multiple generations the way Zabel is today.

Pete Taylor was that person although he did graduate from somewhere out east (yes I know where). Unfortunately, he can't be here anymore to give us those lasting memories. He would of been our "Zabel" without the drinking and outragous claims.

All I can say is give Walters time and he will grow on you.

Even though he isn't a true Cyclone either, (Like Miller a Hawk) he bleeds cardinal and gold. I'll take someone like him anyday. He will be around many years to come.

Plus, I know Zabel has accomplished alot and seen alot in life concerning UofI althletics. Do I care?? Not really... I'll let others give him cudos. All he is now is a drooling Hawk fan that knows little about current teams, but can live off previous accomplishments.

Is Zable even in Iowa now? No matter what Zable says I really think he HATES ISU. Miller kinda likes ISU I think. Zable is excuse maker no 1 when Iowa loses to ISU, or any game for that matter he is just worse after an ISU loss, just listen to soundoff after an Iowa loss. There isnt much better radio than Iowa fans melting down after a loss.

I have heard bits of this show before and I think it is a precallinshow of some sort. I'm not sure what kind of fan base thinks they need a precallinshow, but I guess Iowa fans are one of them. I guess I'm not suprised, this comes from the same people that have a 5 hr pregame show.

The hail mary comment is like a cup check. I throw it out there to see how many Clone are listening to an Iowa Hawkeye football radio show.

Not sure what everyone expects listening to WHO Radio. They ARE the home and away voice of Hawkeyes. Do you expect them to talk up the Clones when 90% of people listening are Hawk fans?

I liken it to the political conventions...you have to poke fun at the other side in order to please your base. If you don't or if you go against your base, you will be called out for it.
