Hang Joens's jersey

She will be some day. I would think Carlton will get hers hung before Joens will. Probably been long enough to get hers hung soon. Just like the men there are some guys in the conversation but I think Niang is about the most deserving and he graduated in 2016 so probably be awhile until we see Joens jersey retired too

I believe ISU athletics Department has a specific timeline and requirements. This has been brought up several times in discussing Ejim, Niang, and Monte. I thought it was around 10 years or so.

Found this....
From an e-mail with Athletic Director Jamie Pollard,

“We have two minimum requirements:
1. Have to be in the Athletics Hall of Fame.
2. Have to have graduated from Iowa State.”

I believe the 10 year minimum is to get into ISU hall of fame.

They need to reveal SOMEone's jersey being retired before the Iowa game next season. I'm sure there's some rule that would prevent ISU from hanging Ashley's #24. But if there was ever a time to make an exception, it would be for that game.

It irks me a bit that our process is so sloooooow. Sometimes, there are no brainers, and it seems a bit ridiculous that we haven't hung a jersey in 15 years (and that was for a player who deserved to be alive to see that).

Yep. Ashley is an absolute slam dunk.
Monte is the all time leader in games, minutes, steals, assists, and win shares. His could be retired today IMO.

Pre covid year looking at all time Big 12 stats I think he was definitely top 3 or 4 of all big 12 players (not just ISU) in terms of total production.

Why? Pretty much all of Joens on court accomplishments trump Carleton’s.

Well if you wait the 10 yrs she graduated in 19 Joens in 23. Thus she'll probably get in 1st. If you want to argue one or the other I can see Joens.

I get that’s the requirements set by the AD, but that wasn’t brought up until after your post. The way your post read, was that Carleton would get in based on merit over Joens and I was curious as to why you thought that.

If you are just saying she would get in first by a technicality due to when they could each make the Athletic HOF and cover that requirement, I obviously would agree.

If you made me pick one to get their jersey hung this year, no HOF requirement, it’s Joens by a wide margin in my book.

It’s interesting that some are now downplaying Carlton and yet there was a discussion similar to this one right after she graduated. Both are VERY worthy. But getting the jersey retired goes beyond play IMO. The wait period also gives the university a chance to see what the person does after graduation (as an extreme example…doesn’t undertake criminal activity or do something that would tarnish their reputation).
