Hamilton Considering Cal, LSU, Virginia

Who cares if he alienates a fanbase at a school he no longer attends?

You're right, it would have been closer to the truth, and it would have also been more negative for the program's reputation. It immediatelys raises the follow up question of why weren't things working out?

But yet saying that homesickness is the reason why you're transferring out of one university, and then a week later your short list of schools are mostly made up of schools that are even further away from home? You mean that doesn't put the program in a negative light? You mean people can't see through that?

Point taken.

Exactly! Its funny to think back about 5 months ago how some people were so sure we had a great chance to land Harrison Barnes. I'm guessing he choose not to come to ISU for more reasons than some would like to admit...

No one is happy. But credibilty took a major hit with the source being wrong.

It's not that different from a reporter getting bad info from a source. People now naturally lower their respect for that reporter and are much less likely to believe them next time around.

This is pretty ridiculous. Did you go out and buy season tickets for next year, belieivng Ham would be back? Did you become so emotionally invested in having Ham back next year that it justifies being upset because CIMD's source was off? Good God.

If you want empirical, 100% true information, go hang out around the athletic facilities and find stuff out for yourself. If you want to come to a message board for your information, realize that information comes with a decent degree of liklihood that it may not be true.

No, I did not base my ticket purchase on that information.

Ham was gone, then a rumor was floated (and said to have a high probability of being true) that he was considering coming back. When that rumor is backed by those with supposed connections to the program only to found wildly false. It makes one wonder about those connections.

Here are the cold hard facts you requested. Hamilton lied.

McDermott Confirms Personnel Changes - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

“I appreciate everything the Cyclone Nation has done for me,â€￾ Hamilton said. “The fan base, my teammates and the support of the community at ISU has been incredible, but I just feel I need to be at a school closer to home where my family will have a better opportunity to watch me play. I appreciate everything Coach McDermott and the coaching staff has done for me. They have helped me improve as a player and person.â€￾

These are NOT cold hard facts that Ham lied. The press release could be a lie. No one actually saw or heard Ham say these words. I hope I never have to serve on Jury Duty with you:smile:

Nobody knew...it was a bunch of hearsay. We found the answer, get over it.

Agreed, just reread thread and an apology was made for the bad info. Thread probably should have been deleted right after that.

This is also why I didn't name names calling anyone out. It was not KG that started the thread. In all fairness I should be giving you specifically credit for stating the truth that there was no base to this rumor.

He's transferring, why would he care?

Leaving with dignity. It's not a dishonorable lie if we're calling it a lie. It's a pretty normal way to go out without stirring up anything extra. So I'm not willing to go with the idea that this comment would make Ham a liar.

If he was never a problem, and never known as a liar before, than he isn't a liar now after he left.

maybe just maybe, this ISU MBB is not what they all expected it to be and now are coming up with excuses to jump ship and go where they can be somebody.

Post from the Charlottesville paper, focus's more on how he left here than what he could bring.

Buzz up!
Virginia coach Tony Bennett hasn’t wasted any time in trying to use some of his newfound roster space.
The Daily Progress has learned that former Iowa State basketball big man Justin Hamilton is in Charlottesville taking an official visit.
Hamilton, who was on hand at Saturday’s Virginia-Johns Hopkins lacrosse game with the UVa coaching staff, averaged 6.4 points and 5. 4 rebounds for Iowa State this past season.
Hamilton, a Utah native, is listed at 6-foot-11, 255 pounds and would give Bennett the big body that it lost when John Brandenburg transferred to Colgate last summer.
Hamilton, reportedly, is also considering LSU and UCLA. He would have to sit out the 2010-11 season, per NCAA transfer rules.
Iowa State, which went 15-17 and 4-12 in the Big 12, is in disarray.
Leading scorer Craig Brackins recently announced he will bypass his senior season and make himself eligible for the 2010 NBA draft.
In addition, guard Dominique Buckley announced that he is transferring.
Hamilton started 32 games this past season, but said he wanted to play closer to home—a somewhat curious statement, given the schools he is considering.
“I appreciate everything the Cyclone Nation has done for me,â€￾ Hamilton told Cyclones.com. “The fan base, my teammates and the support of the community at ISU has been incredible, but I just feel I need to be at a school closer to home where my family will have a better opportunity to watch me play.

Maybe his family recently moved to Virginia, that would explain it. Otherwise come on, as the journalist insinuated that statement about family is just ridiculous.

Gee, Hamm, why don't you go to Hawaii. Gals, beach, good weather, nice plane trips, and you can be the big kahuna on the island.

You make a good point, but what should be said on the recruiting trail if we were to make a point with a player?

What should be said on the recruiting trail after four straight losing seasons and scores of transfers?
