Hamilton Considering Cal, LSU, Virginia

If his choice is between lying and throwing his old school and coaches under the bus, then lying seems plausible. It seems that the reason he gave - homesickness - was not entirely accurate.

He's transferring, why would he care?

I just wish we could get a count down to the exhibition season for basketball, the anticipation for next year is too much to handle, plus the exhibition season is going to be our best chances to win some games next year....crap they don't count.

If you say so...Maybe you can help me.

Why would Ham maintain it had nothing to do with the coaching staff, quote saying homesick, but have a list of schools not close to home?

Is that a judgement on the player, or on the coaches?
First of all, where is the direct Hamilton quote about being "homesick?" I must have missed it. Sure, I've seen Gmac saying that Ham "wanted to play closer to home," but I've never heard it from the player himself...
Additionally, why are there such fractured relationships between players and HC? Remember, Lucca first told an asst. coach that he was leaving, not Gmac. That's just weird.

Fair enough...So Ham would lie?...doesn't sound like Ham I've met.

What would you prefer that he said was his reason for leaving? "I really don't like GMAC" and hw will be asked and probed why that is so. Maybe he should go into detail about the shrotcoming of GMAC as a coach and a person, as it relates to his time and experience hear? Should he say "I just really do not like Ames and Iowa State University" Come on now. There is no good way to handle wanting out of his situation. He tried to make it sound as best he could. How do you even know that HE came up with the homesick thing. Didnt the university just simply release a statement, not from Ham's mouth, stating he wanted to play closer to home. Who wrote that? Gmac? JP? Who knows?

There it is, from the player himself.

That being said kids do have "a hard time mentally with being coached."
Perhaps, but when over half of the team defects, then it stands to reason that a big part of the problem is that the coaching staff is having a hard time getting kids to buy into the program. The problem appears to by systematic more so than individual.

At this point how can anyone continuie to blame the players for leaving? It is an obvious problem with the coaching staff. If it was just a few player here and there then maybe it could be the players but with THIS many dfections. You HAVE to blame the coaching staff. So calling out the players might not be the way to go. We should be calling out the ENTIRE coaching staff.
I hate to agree with Crazygreg but i am really starting to believe what he is saying. And what I know, kids are not done leaving this program because of the reasons he is talking about. Something needs to change.

I agree there is something in the program that is causing this. That quote was not directed at our players specifically. Sorry for the confusion. I have included an edit back in that post for clarification.

Perhaps he has a little class? Perhaps he is not into conflict?

Notice that there have not been any interviews with Hamilton posted on here? Do you think that would be the case if he had called out the coaching staff? As someone else here said, this appears to be the basketball breakup equivalent of "It's me, not you."

Thank you. So obviously we have a player who doesn't feel he can be honest with the staff (is that his fault or the coaches?), or media relations helped him with the statement.
But again, calling out Ham for not "being tough" is just preposterous, and without merit.
I bet Ham just got fed up with the lack of accoutability within the program, and feels more comfortable playing for a more authoritative coach who rides heard a little harder.

Only thing JP didn't know about was Hamilton...JP knows what he is doing.

I hate to say it KG, but there is only one possible way to look at this logically.

We are at what, 13-14 transferes now? All individual situations, but all with one common denominator-- the Iowa State Men's Basketball Program.

Is there going to be some amount of gain/loss from every program? Of course. I understand that sometimes you bring in guys with some upside to see if it works out. Some end up being Wesley Johnson, and some just don't work and leave the program. There must be some amount of responsibility placed on the coach for assessing the talent of some guys, but I can understand that naturally you will lose a few players.

This news of Ham is the final indictment against Mac. Players are running from him, and from the program, and it has been this way for the past 4 years. You can say his players aren't tough, or throw out any other excuse you want, but it boils down to one thing: No other coach in the nation seems to have this problem, to this extent. They seem to make it work. Are they easier on their players? I doubt it, but they are able to establish and maintain enough of an relationship with the player that the player feels indebted to the program and sticks around.

There's the saying "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." This saying seems to fit our program. A few guys transfer, they were tought enough, couldn't hack it in the Big 12, ect. You start losing 3 or 4 guys a year, there is a problem with the coach...end of story.

Hamilton bold faced lied about wanting to play closer to home. This is unexcusable.

Anyone wonder if he actually has family in Louisiana or Virginia? Just because he's from Utah doesn't mean his ENTIRE family lives there. Although it is Utah so idk haha...
