Hallice Cooke

If he's not ready this year, he's darn close. I'd hope he's smart enough to realize being a lottery pick for sure is much better than risking falling out of the first round.

Things he could definitely work on...

-just body overall--strength and conditioning, particularly strength
-outside shooting... he's a good three-baller, but every % point he works up there the better
-growing 2" by some miracle would help, too
-continue to lockdown on defense

While I'd love to see Monte and Hallice playing 1 & 2 - they might really slice and dice in a fast break...

IF (if) Monte goes pro this year (lots of of season left, he made a big improvement between this time last year, and March...) it will be good for Hoiberg's resume... Showing he can take a non-top 50 guy, and make him an NBA player in 2 years. As much as Fred has accomplished, he still doesn't have a player in a stable NBA position.

Monte could leave after this year if he's happy to gamble on being a late 1st rounder. Next year's draft looks to be a pretty good one and can't see him going before ~20th+, at best. His size, though not great, is adequate. Biggest minus I see so far is that his outside shot is fairly slow; he's got that odd, over-the head shot, and rarely shoots off the dribble from outside.

My guess is 20/60/20% he leaves after his soph/Jr/Sr years.
I'm not a draft expert but I'd say his numbers r more like this

X%/X%/100%

BUMP

Curious if anyone knows how rehab for him and Williams are going after their respective surgeries? Also curious if anyone knows when deonte Burton will be on campus? TIA

Awesome thanks guys. Can't imagine our scout team, has to really help our guys improve going up against good competition daily.

Cooke hasn't practiced all fall/winter. He won't be cleared to play again until May with the hip surgeries. It is good having the Greek in there guarding Niang and McKay so they can practice getting there shot up over the BIGS we will face the rest of the way. Not such how much competition there is between Monte and Custer in practice. Can't image there is much. Endoze, Nader would make for strong competition in practice for our starters.

Don't forget we have Deonte Burton on the scout team as well

Yeah, I love having a guy like Edozie to practice against. When approaching a game like playing against West Virginia, I'd just let Edozie go completely loose on our starters with there being no such thing as a foul.

Kourtlin Jackson may be in the mix on the scout squad....

I bet you'd be surprised how much run Custer can give Monte in practice. I'm sure in simulating WVU Custer and Jackson were allowed to grab, pull, reach and shove all they wanted. Coaches get pretty creative in trying to emulate what a team is playing in the upcoming game. I'll never forget in high school as we were preparing to play a team with a great shooter a kid the scout team played the role of this opposing player, and anytime he shot and the ball hit anything (rim, backboard, etc) it counted as a made 3 in our scrimmages. ****** all of us off, but boy did we have it in our heads we had to check him anywhere he went.

Custer is supposed to be a pretty good on ball defender

In the post game he said they ran 6 and 7 defenders against the starters to simulate the full court pressure.

Cooke will give us another ball handler and with Custer's development we will have 3 guys capable of playing PG minutes. Throw in Nader and you have 4. :)

Going up against Burton would simulate WVA's team much more, assuming he is getting practice time with the 2nd team.
