Hallice Cooke

I am definitely bias, but Tyrus was the man.

For sure that's why I said true. Someone that can just come in off the bench and be the guy when there needs to be plays. He can handle, dribble drive, and shoot very well. Someone that can end up leading the team in scoring off the bench kind of like a Dion Waiters at Syracuse... But Dion drives better and Hallice shoots better.

I see what you are talking about. Monte is definitely the only true ball handler on this team and it would be nice to have somebody else who could handle the ball as well as he does. That being said, we are definitely spoiled being able to watch Monte play for Iowa State. He controls the ball as well as anyones else in basketball in the last 30 years. It's going to be different watching an Iowa State team play without him, whenever that may happen.

Maybe an NBA example(to a much different degree) would be Harden with the Thunder. Was great off the bench but wasn't really needed with Westbrook and Durant already starting. That way there's more ball for all three but all three were on the floor to end games

His athleticism is the only reason I hear he can't be a high end pick but I think he would make out just fine. He is definitely quick enough to play in the league. Just ask Ryan Harrow.

He's not exactly popping 3s on guys when they go under ball screens, either. It's really tough to make it in the NBA.

Hallice seems to have a really high release - which I like. He'll be able to get that shot off with defenders closing out on him.

Look MM may end up being on some all American teams this year I have no doubt and he makes very smart decisions with the ball(in college). Go watch some NBA games. There is zero chance MM goes after this year, Fred won't let him. Why? Well for starters there are dozens and dozens of European pgs that handle the rock and dish as well if not better than MM but mostly MM needs to improve his outside shooting, a lot. If you want to play pg in the NBA u better have a decent outside shoot from 21ft out. Right now MM isn't close to that. I think he could be with another year or two. If he can just show that he's capable of hitting threes at a decent rate( doesn't have to be Naz level) then he's got a shot. Until then he will be playing at ISU.

I understand. As a distributor he is as good as it gets but he definitely has room to get better and I hope wants to get better at Iowa State rather than Iowa State.

My favorite part about Halice, is on some random chance I happened to watch an Oregon State game early in his freshman year. Kid kept coming in off the bench, and just making everyone else look like chumps. Kept thinking man I wish this kid was playing for us....

So I assume you mean D Exum who played in Australia and I dont know much about or, Marcus Smart who shot 30% from 3, or Elfrid Payton, who shot 26%, or Zach Levine who averaged 38% from three, Shabazz Napier who shot 40% from three, or Tyler Ennis who shot 33% from three. By the way, those are the top 20 pgs drafts last year and MM shot a higher 3 pt % than all of them.

Monte could leave after this year if he's happy to gamble on being a late 1st rounder. Next year's draft looks to be a pretty good one and can't see him going before ~20th+, at best. His size, though not great, is adequate. Biggest minus I see so far is that his outside shot is fairly slow; he's got that odd, over-the head shot, and rarely shoots off the dribble from outside.

My guess is 20/60/20% he leaves after his soph/Jr/Sr years.

Agree, but I put it at 10/70/20.

You just love to hate, don't you? Look at recent PG's to get drafted and you'll see having a great shot from beyond the arc isn't that important. Marcus Smart was a lottery pick and we all know about his struggles from deep. Also, if there are "dozens and dozens" of European PG's that handle it better than Monte, why aren't they in the NBA? Monte is ALREADY arguably one of the best PG's in NCAA history when it comes to handling the ball.
The numbers say Monte is pretty dang close to being NBA caliber.

We have a point forward.

Before the season sat by Monte at a dinner and he said he is going no where after this year. I'm holding him to his word.

Some of you may hate me for saying this, but if we make a deep run into the tourney (final four), I think Monte is gone. He will have plenty of hype, one of the top PGs, and still young. Possible lottery pick.
Nope. He will be back.

I thought Tyler Ennis last year was not that good and was physically very similar to Monte (Ennis is 6'2", 180lbs). He still got drafted in the first round.
Know what he's doing now?

Needs to beef up more for the NBA.

He's still a young'n and the NBA is physical although it doesn't look that way because of the amazing speed and athleticism of the players.
