Did anyone really think Bluford was going to fill the McGee role? Hoped maybe, but he was an unheralded late signee. He was picked up as insurance by Fred. When he committed we only had freshman and a sophomore (who sparingly played as a freshman) as our guards. I wouldn't really count that as a reach by the staff, though it's true he obviously didn't pan out.

I will point you back to this Chris Williams blog.... to answer that question.

Like you said he was insurance against monte or Thomas not panning out and not having Kane yet having to rely on just Naz and/or sdw and/or bubu and/or monte/thomas. With the unknown with bub and the potential to fix his shot with his quick release it was a low risk high reward bet. Odds are we wouldn't need him and like edozie he has potential and will give good scout looks at worst. He was an insurance policy that didn't need to be claimed and thus he left. We got kane, naz showed up, monte surpassed expectations and Matt was more than serviceable and displays great potential fulfilling his role for last year's team. He may or may not have been a bust had we needed him we will never know.

Kid sure doesn't come across as "trouble", sign on the line that is dotted.

On a somewhat related story. If he does indeed come to ISU it will be interesting to see if he wears #3... May give us a timetable if they are considering retiring Ejim's number and how soon they plan on doing it..

Iowa State retires jerseys, not numbers....

He'll wear 3 if he wants since ISU doesn't retire numbers, just the jersey. I think the only numbers off the table for at least a while are 32, 14, 44, 35 and 20 since they have been retired by a person who wore it previously. They may not be off limits but I haven't seen anyone wearing them in a long time.

Plus, IF they ever did retire Ejim's jersey, it won't be for quite a while. ISU doesn't do that even in the first 5 years after someone is gone. They usually wait a while.
