Tough Mudder - probably the toughest one day endurance race on the planet

Warrior Dash | Home

Hell Run | The Most Kick-*** Mud Run on Earth

Just curious what the experience was like since I am considering registering for ToughMudder or the Warrior Dash.

Around here, Dances with Dirt Hell, MI ( Dances with Dirt in Hell, Michigan - Home ) is as close as I can come to those you've listed. The difference is that DWD doesn't set up any obstacles, they use natural rivers, swamps, hills, rocks, woods, and the town of Hell, Michigan for 50 Mile or K Ultras plus a relay race. The course description (in the link) itself is very entertaining. I know the head organizer (Head Goat) although I haven't seen him in years. He is certifiable fun which includes putting something in race waiver that says God won't give you anything you can't handle although that may include your death. He also believes that beer can heal anything.

I'd like to see some of you younger guys enjoy this race either as an Ultra or even a relay of five people running about 12 miles each. The relays are handicapped for gender and age so your wives can enjoy the agony and ecstasy of finishing.

Here are my two favorite half-marathons in Southeast Michigan:

May 1st trailmarathon - Home This one used to be really difficult before the trail bike craze started in the 90s. Now the trail is still narrow but smoothed out by the bikes. Still has hills though; lots of fun.

June 5th Dexter-Ann Arbor Run Half Marathon, 10K & 5K in Ann Arbor, MI
This one is all paved and relatively few hills (comparatively speaking) but it is a beautiful run along side the Huron River. Here is a better link Home

Just wondering, why did you like those better than, the Free Press, or haven't you made the free press. I like the Dexter-Ann Arbor, but wouldn't have gone out of my way for it. The railroads and bridges were good viewing for that one and the river roads were fun, but I thought it was way cool "running to Canada" and doing the tunnel and then the bridge @ the Free Press.

Other one that you didn't mention, but I've never done. Isn't the Run through Hell in that area too? Can't remember if that is a madison or AA area run. Always thought it was a funny one for name anyway. Wish I woulda made that one.

EDIT: LOL I should have gotten caught up on the thread and read your last post before I asked about hell.

Did the Warrior Dash in CO (Copper Mtn) last summer, had a great time. Hardest part was running in the mountains, elevation change killed everyone and took a lot out of you. The obstacles weren't really that challenging, but it was nice to break it up a bit. Pretty much a glorified 5k. In the end, we walked away wanting something a bit tougher.

We've signed up for the Tough Mudder this summer (CO - Beaver Creek) and I think it will be exactly what we expect. We'll see how it goes....
