Isn't it a requirement that every guitar player learn "Stairway to Heaven"? Or am I just old?

Can't it be both?

I would love to learn how to play. Anyone have any suggestions about a 1st guitar? Dont want to spend alot just in case I lose interest =)

1st guitar I owned was a used Explorer knock-off that actually had a small amp built into the body...the sound was absolutely hilarious but it was a blast to learn on.

The best beginner guitar website I've seen:
Guitar Lessons for Beginners Archive - Free Guitar Lessons Online - Acoustic and Electric Guitar Lessons

Starts at the very beginning, covers lots of good stuff and answers all those inevitable "beginner" questions. Plus, has lots of suggestions for easy songs to play along the way. Definitely check that out.

And there are plenty of decent really cheap guitars out there to learn on - I would suggest one of those, both because it's not a ton of money out the window if you decide not to stick with it, and because if (hopefully when) you get really into it, you're going to want your pick of guitars (there are a million different variations).

Best advice: get a tuner, stick with it, and yes, your fingers will stop hurting really soon!

if u play alot, then you need to change your string alot. i play when ever i get a chance to, so i go through strings like crazy. so ur best bet is to buy your strings in bulk from Musician's Friend - Buy musical instruments, music gear, musical equipment online
