Guess Who Made The List Of Candidates At MSU

Kleiman's name as well as the Kansas coach were on lists for the job, Kleiman has already stated publicly he is not interested in the MSU job.
Did Kleiman say it or did his agent say it?

Exactly - and how often over the last several years have we ever heard a definitive statement like this from Matt that quickly?
Mat not having an agent may be part of this.

I'd argue that Penn State is clearly in the top 6. Wisconsin solidly #7. After that it gets a lot more murky.
For me--

Ohio State
USC
Michigan
Oregon
Penn State
Washington
Wisconsin
UCLA
Nebraska
Iowa
Michigan State
Minnesota
Illinois
Purdue
Maryland
Indiana
Rutgers
Northwestern

Maybe Friendly can answer this, but has the AD purged everyone from the Nasser days? I guess really all admin? If there's anyone there in administration that was also in administration during the long list of scandals, I wouldn't go anywhere near the place. From the outside, there are few places that seem as rotten as east lansing.
Oh that happened years ago, university president, AD, everyone even remotely mentioned was terminated or resigned. Might be a BOT member or two left but they are elected so that would be the only real carry over.

ehhh….he did say that early in his tenure here and reporters ignored it and kept asking him. I think he sort of stopped doing any thing.

SIAP.

On the flip side, if Campbell does leave, who the hell do we have for options to replace him? Alex Golesh? Jason Candle?

I would have Michigan State above Iowa. More tradition/historical success.
Yeah that whole middle group is very fluid, largely depending on the coach in place. Wisconsin is closer to that middle section too. I would currently give Iowa the nod as sparty doesn’t have a coach currently.

Whenever he leaves, it's going to be an up and coming coordinator or a HC from a level down. We aren't going to steal a HC from the B1G, SEC, or ACC. Golesh may wait for something bigger and Candle has turned down better jobs.

Do we want this season to go to hell again? No. There is vocal minority that is largely diva's (the ones you see on this board) that want him gone. But any reasonable person does not want him gone right now.
Playing somewhat in the middle on this. I don't want CMC gone right now but don't have a bad feeling about the trend. It feels alot like the end of CPR, I hope that changes and CMC is here for a long time but if it doesn't I have a feeling Pollard will hold on for too long like he did with CPR.

I trust CMC a lot more than CPR.

Rhoads made a desperation hire to bring in Jabba the Hut as OC, and from all accounts the culture inside that staff was pretty toxic. CPR was great at motivation, but wasn't any better at managing a coaching staff than Chizik.

I don't get anything close to that read from CMC and this coaching staff. He just did a near-complete refresh of this coaching staff, and so far, I like what I see (save for the results of the OL). At least, I like it enough to believe they deserve a ticket to try to rebuild this thing over the next couple of seasons.

One thing that Iowa State can have as a competitive advantage is continuity with this staff. I don't think Iowa State will win anything if we are in a cycle of hiring a new coach every 3-5 years.

Plus, I think if we were hiring a new coach, quite frankly I'd hope we get someone pretty much just like Matt Campbell. Therefore, I think our best course of action is to ride or die with Matt until he decides to leave on his own.

Ikard and Rittenberg were talking about the Tucker firing on the BIG12 Today show Wednesday evening. They noted sources close to the program mentioned Kleiman and Campbell on the short list.
Kleiman happened to be a planned guest Wednesday and called in right after they were talking about the opening. Ikard asked Kleiman about his name being mentioned for the MSU opening and Kleiman chuckled and said he will be staying in Mahattan FWIW.

That's fair. I agree it's completely different in terms of culture. Was mainly comparing results. Recruiting has been trending down, same with CPR. He won with Chiziks leftovers then flamed out. No progression on the OL but I'll give Clanton another year before judging that too much. If he can let the offense trend in the direction we saw last week I'll be less concerned.

He has never denied rumored interest.
Totally agree - and appears to be the difference between Klieman (who does not appear to view the KSU job as a stepping stone) vs Matt who obviously has/does - just hasn’t been offered the next level job yet.

Unless a coach is in the Top 6 teams of the Big10/SEC, I would argue it would be easier to get to the playoffs with a team in the Big12 over middle-tier teams from those conferences. That is why if Matt does leave, we will be able to find someone who has that team internal drive to try and get to that level. As it is doable for any Big12 school as we are probably a 2 bid conference.

It’s really weird position for CMC, a couple years ago he was the hot name, now I don’t think one of those top programs would really consider him.

While I don’t think he is the right fit for MSU a program like sparty would be the logical next step. While MSU isn’t a top program currently in the big ten it is top 5 in terms of ratings and revenue and for the past couple years would have been top 5 in recruiting as well. However with the wild issue that is the Tucker problem plus a lot of other factors I can see the job not being particularly attractive unless someone just wants a big pay out.

Kinda annoying for me personally as I’m back to having Michigan dominate most games because of current competition while sparty is a dumpster fire. Then you flip it for basketball. Was awesome for a couple years when both schools were good/great.
