Grilled Cheese Sandwich

What's the proper way to serve a grilled cheese sandwich?

Goddamn, I miss cheese so much. My four month old daughter has a dairy allergy, and since she's breastfeeding my wife has had to go dairy free. In a show of support I've also gone dairy free. It blows. Shredded vegan cheese isn't the worst thing man ever created, but it's right there in the top 20.

How bout we all just meet up at Hopp's house and have a grilled cheese party! We could make a grilled cheese bar with different breads, cheeses, and spreads.

Grilled Cheezers and the National Championship! Sounds like a party!

I've made a Grilled PBJ before. It was quite good. Cheese is better though.

Did you actually grill the jelly as well? I've only done peanut butter.

I'm not here to debate which is better, just throwing out a delicious alternative. I believe this world is big enough for both options.

PB and J are inside the bread when grilled, if that's what you mean. Yes.

You don't want to put too much PB and J in the sandwich or it will leak out into your pan and it won't stick together as well when grilled.

I think you guys are missing the best way to "grill" the sandwiches, love being able to put them on a foreman so it cooks both sides well at the same time. Great for pancakes as well :)

My wife wanted French Toast the other day so she bought Texas Toast. So I made my son "the best" grilled cheese the other day using the left over bread. I fried a slice of bologna first, rarely have that around but we picked it up on a whim the other day. Then I put a slice of Kraft single American on there. Then I sprinkled Mexican blend, and Mozzarella, and to top it off a slice of pepper jack cheese. I made mine with my favorite wheat bread and left out the balogna. It was fantastic torn and dipped in hot tomato soup.

I did this in a non-stick pan. I've done them in the waffle maker as well so that it really gives you a lot of crispier sides.

You're welcome. ;)

I've done a grilled PB and banana sammich a few times, that turns out a little messy but delicious.

I've sometimes do those, but will PB one piece of bread and Nutella the other with the banana in between.

That is really something.

I can hook you up. Your wife doesn't need to know.

Vegan cheese truly is horrid. Someone tried to the whole "you can barely tell its not real cheese" line on me once. Foolish me tries it.... Then you have to pretend it isn't the worst thing you've ever put in your mouth and you just suffer and suffer. At least she was pretty I can't imagine how much you must love your wife.

Never again.

I've seen somewhere where it suggests spreading mayonnaise on your bread to grill the grilled cheese with. I haven't tried it yet because I'm not the biggest mayo fan.

Might be good though. Anyone tried it?
The best way. A little tangyness adds to the melty goodness of a well made grilled cheese.
