Greetings from Utah!

My sincerest "ahem" apologies. 239 yards from him alone in the 2010 game!!

Welcome to the board and encourage you to be a regular contributor. I'll be totally honest, I was against Utah coming into the league based on what I was hearing but I'm warming up to it and actually feel Utah will, in the end, be a good fit for the Big 12. You will find Iowa State fans to be very hospitable if you choose to come to a game in Ames. I'm hoping your fans will be that way as well as ISU fans travel well and will show up in large numbers when we play at Utah.

Welcome. I agree with earlier post that ASU is much more hated than Utah. I don't really care what your fans on twitter say (because I don't see it); but when the President and AD both bash and hate on the conference that brought them a liferaft, at FULL shares (not partial like the big 10 and sec do) they deserve all the hate we can bring and hopefully that karma will bring as well. Liked the Hornacek reference. He was fun to watch play in college and as a pro.

**** the ASU president but that fanbase seems apathetic. Utah has a loud fanbase and some of which are serious dooshnozzles.

It will be interesting to see how the different programs/styles/roster builds compete with each other. I watch a lot of PAC 12 football because they're the only thing on late at night, but you just never know how everything is going to wash out when you get into conference play year in and year out.

Outside of ISU fandom I love the general college football Saturday of watching games from 11 a.m. until these late night Pac 12 games.

I'd guess they'd keep those 'late' times (still 7 PM PT)?

They fit the Big 12.

A vocal minority had themselves convinced Utah was exactly like LA, SF and Seattle while nothing like Kansas, Iowa or Oklahoma...I'm guessing that lunacy is reached only through an insanely heated BYU rivalry. It should fade because it's not reality based. The culture fit stuff doesn't matter that much anyway, the real reason they fit the Big 12 better than Pac is that they have an actual engaged fanbase.

Welcome! As an ISU grad that lives in SLC, I am very excited for the Utes to join the Big 12. I can vouch for the OP that Utah fans on Twitter seem to be the vocal minority compared to ones I've interacted with in real life around here. I went to a Utes blackout game against UCLA a couple years ago and was pretty impressed with the atmosphere. I think ISU fans are really going to enjoy that road trip and the campus is a stones throw away from downtown SLC (although I still maintain that JTS is better and the tailgating scene at Rice Eccles is non-existent compared to Ames).

I'm also very excited to have the Holy War in the Big 12. We may think the CyHawk rivalry is big, but the Holy War is another level of hatred with all the cultural and political differences between UofU and BYU fans/alumni. There's definitely a lot of local buzz around it already.

I totally get why Utah is sad to leave the PAC as they worked really hard to get into that conference and have had a lot of decent success on the football field. That being said, Utah and BYU fans are very passionate about football, and I think that will fit in well with the other football crazy schools in the Big 12. Utah is very similar to IA in terms of population, having 2 P5 universities that hate each other, and not having an NFL team that draws any fans away. Will be fun having both of the in conference with us.

I guess Utah is a lot like Los Angeles and Seattle in that they are both places in the world.

I believe you're right. Especially if they win a lot. It took about 10 minutes for the WCC to despise them in basketball.

LOL we have our own BB history with them one of our players gave their fans a 1 finger salute :D. It was Melvin Ejim.
