I'm not really sure why, but Midway is one of my favorites. Kinda cheesy at times, but considering when it was made it was tolerable. Check out this cast...

Tora Tora Tora was probably the most accurate hollywood produced war movie ever made.
Followed very closely by Gettysburg and Band of Brothers.
But the best war movie parts ever were when they first cut the interviews at the end of each episode of Band of Brothers.
Kelly's Heroes was done amazingly well, for a comedic/tragic look at WWII.

Midway was SO cheesy. The dialog in the radio transmissions were laughable. And 80% of the combat footage was ripped from Tora, Tora, Tora - and horrifically misplaced.
That being said - I watch it every time it's on. :wink:
The Great Escape is one of my favorites.
Bridge over the River Kwai is another.
Not really a war movie per se, but equal to Midway in cheesiness is The Final Countdown with Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen. Love the concept of that movie. And watching the tomcats play around with the zeros.... ah, if only...
