Good ISU Candidate List

Hope Pollard at least gives Jeff Hornacek a call. Granted he has no direct college coaching experience, but I have a strong hunch he would be great. He has been a winner every where he has been. I think he may have a passion for Iowa State like Paul Rhoades. One of the smartest and hardest working players I ever saw.

I love winning, but I don't want to fall asleep watching it. Give me an up tempo style any day. If I wanted to watch a slow paced game, defensive, low scoring game...I'd watch hockey. I want to have fun at games and that involves both winning AND a high powered offense.

So you would rather go 15-17 uptempo instead of 26-7 playing Butler style ball? REALLY?

Also, have you ever watched hockey? I've never heard anyone call hockey slow paced...

And this is exactly why, as much as I love Hornacek, he should NOT get the call.

Remind me what the #1 complaint about McDermott was when he came to ISU - he had no major conference coaching experience. Yet you want to replace him with someone that has even LESS experience?

It's such statements that make me really glad that the vast majority of the fans on this site aren't running the coaching search...

Haven't watched above high school hockey lately have you?

One thing that bugs me on these coaching prospect lists: the "Bo Ryan Wisconsin connection" as it applies to Pollard.

I'm fine if an AD wants to forge his path with a template, but ... at some point, find your own identity and hire a ****** best candidate you can afford.

I feel the same way about the state-of-Iowa connection, too, although that can have its legitimacy because of (a) recruiting connections and (b) possible longevity.

Jeter was almost hired when WM got the job. He hasn't built on Pearl's success at all. So he's out.

Nice to have a fairly lengthy (and mostly realistic) list
Let me go through the list and eliminate the obvious.
LE: See my other 47 posts explaining why this is a short-sighted, selectively-nostalgic idea.
Gard: Zzzzzzzzz
Jankovich: His track record is actually lower than GM's pre-ISU. No Valley titles. At least GM got to the tournament, not just NIT.
Jeter: Didn't build on Pearl's success.
Rahe: See Jankovich
Rick Ray: Never heard of him.
