Golf in Ames.

Ballard CC is about $2,200 for a membership right down the highway, they may have a waiting list at this time though not completely sure.

Honey Creek is a hidden gem in central Iowa.

It’s rarely a log jam and is a beautiful and well maintained course.

Veenker is okay, same for Coldwater.

16? The hole that runs along the creek?
For me, it is hole #7 - hate that one. A fairly simple re-design would make it so much fairer.

Jester Park used to have a crazy one too (a long, uphill par 4 with no safe landing spot off the tee) until they recently renovated it.

Ya you have to hit a great tee shot, or it will take 3 shots to get over the creek.

#7 is hard, but I don't see how it's unfair?

A blind downhill tee shot with trouble on both sides and a limited run-out before you're in the creek. Lay it up and you're either on a severe downslope or pretty far back to clear the creek with your second shot. Then the green is still a healthy distance to go from the creek, with a smallish putting surface for a target.

I've hit every possible club in my bag from that tee, and never feel comfortable with what the end result will be. It's my nemesis.

Do you play from the blues? I only ever play yellows so that may be why. I always hit hybrid, hybrid, middle of the landing area is usually about 220, but it's downhill so 200 is about the number.

Veenker honestly was a few real bad holes. Along with the one that was mentioned, the two holes were the green is on top of a giant hill just sucks. One is a par 3, plays around 130-140 but the green is tiny and slates down the hill. The other is a par 4, I can never get a good 2nd shot.

I think the Par 5 on the back 9 "the beast" is the dumbest hole in golf ive ever played. Its so unfair.

Is that "squaw creek"? I think there is only one par 5 on the back, the one with the creek all along the right side? Actually an easy hole if you just go 3 wood off the tee and a long iron to put yourself a AW or 52 into the green. I have a hard time not trying to crush one on this hole.

Ohh yeah this, hybrid off of the tee and don't ever go for that 2nd landing area. I have never ever found my ball when trying to drive off this. Gonna need to play veenker this spring, I do love that course.
You might as well forget that second landing area exists, there's no point in trying for it unless you really think you can get there in two.

I feel like that's hole #2. Green up high and to the left?

#2 is way worse than #7, tough elevated green, tight alley off the tee, and you really only have half the fairway to work with if you want a decent shot in.
