Golf Grip - Overlap vs. Interlock vs. Ten Finger

Overlap, too big of fingers for interlock and ten finger is a joke. No control whatsoever with ten finger.

This is what I was talking about with the 10 finger. Just not enough control...for me.

With the "slicer's grip" comment...I've seen a lot of baseball players struggle with massive slices when they first start playing, and most of them start out with the 10 finger grip, because it's what they know/are comfortable with. I don't necessarily think it's the grip causing the struggles (again, I've seen it work) as much as weight displacement. The golf swing is completely different than a baseball swing.

On a side but somewhat related note, from my experience, hockey players usually transition to golf the easiest, no matter the grip. Very similar body movements.

A good baseball swing pulls your hands inside the ball. If you do that in golf, there's your slice.

Absolutely true. I played both sports back in the day, but I always knew I wasn't going to be good enough at baseball to play at the next level, so I put pretty much all my eggs in the golf basket.

I started hitting exclusively left-handed (I golf right-handed) because I knew that "hands inside" approach would **** up my interlock gripped golf swing.

yaman is correct about pulling in your hands causing a slice. To find the best grip, let your arms hang in front of you as if you were addressing the ball. Put your hands on the club the same way they hang, holding the club mostly in your fingers. In my case, I can see two knuckles on my left hand, but everyone is different. There is no one perfect grip.

I do this to prevent a hook too, which is my tendency since I had my back surgery.

Golf courses and cemeteries are the biggest wasters of prime real estate.

I'm sure this is overly simplistic, but I've heard that one factor is the size of your hands. Smaller: 10 finger, medium: interlock, larger: overlap.

I just switched to the interlock this year. Used the ten finger all my life. I don't know if thats what has made the difference but I'm playing the best I have ever had in my life.

I use both interlock and overlap. If I am pushing ball to the right with overlap I switch to interlock, which helps to keep the ball on a straight to draw line. I have used both enough to know which is better under different conditions.
