i'm fond of the 79 helmet, albeit, not gold. i do like the 76-78 helment...but it could be improved by leaving the white ISU lettering off.

Only if we wear it with the whie pants with lots of midnite blue trim. It looks good on purdue and ga tech
Ok, how about the Marv Seiler throwback jerseys......ugly as hell, but the Nebraska fans will have to go back to therapy after seeing them. We might too but oh well.
Here is my idea we were talking about at the UNI game. If our colors are cardinal and gold why don't we replace our white Jerseys with gold permanently, that way they can do the gold thing at times like this. Reinforces our "colors" and would be very unique acrosss the country.
my high school did that after i graduated. it looked pretty ugly (of course, it was the french's yellow mustard color)

I also heard rumors of this before the season started. I love how we look now, but wearing some gold uniforms just for this game would be sweet...
I have no idea if this rumor is true or not though...
I personally think the thow back idea is horrible. Wow, that will help put some fear in Nebraska. Leave the unis alone. Our fan base is so fickle. Stick with the look of the most successful era ISU football has ever had. I know that's not saying a lot. I hope we never change the look again and worry about winning. All Yellow! I can hear everyone hear in Omaha starting to laugh.
I don't know...I think it would look pretty nice we came roaring out of the tunnel with Gold helmets...OR..Had red jerseys with "Beat Nebraska" in gold on them...

first off, i get off my 7 and 5 comfort zone and i'm back into the 1 and 10 comfort zone (lol!) and really, with these throwbacks we're talking about... Unless we bring out the nebraska stunner unis, do we really wanna be celebrating the era where we came close to going 0-for-the-decade? didn't think so... finally, during that era, sad to say, I was a hawkeye fan. that era only existed 1 game per year for me, and I ALWAYS cheered for the winning side. of course i grew up, realized my mistakes, and have now found the "light side." but my point is, why do we really want to dredge up an era of ISU football that most of us fans would really like to forget about?

You bring up a good point and a question I have for all Cyclone fans...When do the people that are happy with where we come from move aside for the new bread of Cyclone? I for one, witnessed two undefeated seasons at the Hilton, 2 conference champ's, Big 12 tourney champ's (women's won some as well) AND a 9 win football season/bowl victory while in school. I am not saying,IF WE DONT GO BCS , CLEAN HOUSE! but at least making the big championship game should be possible. No reason we shouldn't compete in basketball for the conference championship almost every year.
-Of course this discussion could go on forever in a circle around this board as it usually does, so I will take it back to the Uni's. Many if not all of the students at ISU are too young to really remember the constant beatings we used to take year in and year out, not to mention the retro jersey's are usually quite popular (just please don't bring back the attack of the killer tomatoes from 2000- double boooooo!). Therefore why not storm out of the gates in some spiffy new dud's? The wow factor couldn't hurt? Might help mentally wash off last week's performance? If it doesn't, it is not the end of the world.
Personally I like the fact that JP and the department have the approach of "hell let's throw this at the wall and see if it sticks." Now...is it going to work all of the time no...AND should we try something like that with a new stadium project - OF COURSE NOT. But if don't be proactive and ask that pretty lil' coed what class she is going to and where she is gonna be on Friday night?...then we deserve to sit back and B#$#@ as the world passes us by.

Personally, I'm ok with the gold pants. I was never a big fan of the gold helmet. I think the "Tazmanian Cardinal" was the best thing that's ever happened to the ISU athletic department
I also wouldn't mind if Nike started having ISU go to the Indy Colts-esque or NY Jets-esque jerseys with the high shoulder stripes. They point towards the past but yet are completely today in design.
I couldnt stand to wait until Tomorrow night to see if we would be in the throwback uni's so I emailed JP and here is the response that I got.....
I hate to burst your bubble but the team will not be in gold jerseys. Unfortunately to do that we would have had to order them before we even knew we were doing the Golden Rules promotion. Believe me - we did try to do it.
