Attended the game again tonight. I didn't arrive until about 8 minutes left in the first half. The team Marquis played against tonight was the best of the three I've seen. It was a close game when I arrived. I'm not sure what Marquis had accomplished prior to my arrival but the remainder of the first half was uneventful.

Early in the second half, Marquis made a great defensive block but went down hard. He came up limping and was removed from the game. After a few minutes in the locker room, he came back out and seemed OK.

It was about a 10 point game (GCCC was up) when Marquis got back in. I saw something from him I hadn't seen before. He completly took over the game. He scored something like 12-14 straight points by himself. On defense, he had a couple blocks, a steal, and two straight powerful rebounds. It was amazing to watch.

Yes, I know, its JUCO competiton but tonight, he owned them.

Another piece of intel, there was a technical on the other team and Marquis was the guy they sent to shoot the free throws. I guess the coach has a little faith in his ability to shoot.

A side note, I sat next to a dude with an Auburn shirt on. We had a great conversation. Like any ISU fan, he is optomistic regardless of his feelings about the situation. He said most Auburn fans view Charles Barkley kind of like that crazy uncle that makes holidays entertaining but your really glad he doesn't live in the same town. I expressed our thanks for them taking Chizik off our hands.

Next game is 12/28 so I'll report back then.

I'd still like him over for Thanksgiving just to listen to him yap...and then never see him again.

Thanks for the update! It's getting very hard not to be giddy over this guy suiting up for us next year.

Keep your emotions in check...I remember when this board thought he sucked because you couldn't google him:wink:

Great update scuba! Keep em coming! I wish Gilstrap was here this year, he is exactly what we need.

What is this google?
Also, think he'll be good enough to step in and start next year?
I think he'll probably start from day 1, since he's athletic, strong, quick, powerful, big, and a great scorer. He's also a pretty good defender. If he wasn't, he probably wouldn't have gotten offered.

Look at this years team...Gilstrap brings rebounding, defense, scoring, maturity, ability to get to he rim, causes matchup problems....Umm, yes

Plus with Gilstrap and Colvin everybody will be playing there natual positions. Lucca still probably backing up the 3 but for the most part is back at the 2. Buckley and Colvin at the point. Should be interesting because the 2 guard is going to get pretty crowded: Christopherson, Lucca, Wes, Lee, DG?, Boozer.

Still pretty thin in the post in terms of scoring potential.

Yeah I gotta say, the post positions have to be the biggest concerns for this staff. They are at least in my opinion. Not only is Craig not where he needs to be physically yet, he's not even close to where we need him to be mentally. One 32pt game against UNI does not prove to me he "gets" it yet. Maybe he never will, I don't know. But just when I think he's turning the corner, I see the same old soft Craig, both offensively and defensively. There were times against Iowa where he looked like he flat out gave up. Man I hope things turn around for him sooner or later...I'm not giving up hope because he's only a sophomore, so that's good. I realize he is scoring points but we need more from him than just points. But hey I'm staying positive!

My hope also is that Pomlee makes some major strides, to the point where he can play meaningful minutes next year and be a STRONG presence that can REBOUND. We've gotten out-physicalled by EVERY team we've played so far, so hopefully LA can step up and hopefully Hamilton develops a mean streak as well.

As for Gilstrap - he's a baller. Can't wait to see what he and Colvin can do...

Post play next year we will be more physical(defense and rebounding will be better), but still concerned about scoring...

I know proving that we are getting better comes with W's but I think if you step back you can see how needs are being addressed...although, slower than most would like.

I would be willing to bet Hamilton makes a huge DG size step forward next year. Not to say he's all big 12 but I'd bet he makes some pleasant strides.
