***General Cycling Thread***

I ride mine until I start seeing fibers rather than smooth rubber. If I ever see even a little fiber somewhere and I don't change that tire immediately, I almost invariably regret it. Generally I don't have a problem up to that point though.

Does anyone rotate tires from front to back when you think they are about worn half way? It just seems like the fronts wear evenly (maintaining a curved profile on the wear surface) while the rears tend to wear flat so they middle of the tire wears out prematurely. I always think of it when it is probably too late to rotate and get any good out of it.

I try to but I’m also usually too late to get much good out of it and tires aren’t that expensive (if you don’t want them to be).

I used to. Then I had my first blow out on my front tire while I also happen to be descending. At that point I feel like I've always had the fresh rubber on the front tire and the back get's the used tire.

Interesting. I usually replace them in pairs. Any old single is in attic stock for when I need a stop gap replacement.

Just put on a new Brooks Cambium B-17 "carved" saddle. Tried to set it up same height/angle as Specialized that I had on that was fitted properly...will see on test ride today.

I blame this thread for me deciding maybe my saddle was not so great.

You’re going to love it once you get it dialed in and worn in.

Did the stuck shoe tip over yesterday. Did a nice elbow to the pavement but old man bones did not break. Bad enough to get hurt augering in but tipping over would have double sucked.

Rode 30 miles on new saddle, not liking it so far....supposed to be the no breaking in version of the leather so not sure what to think. Will have to give it some more rides.

I have C-17's carved on 2 of my bikes. Wish they were lighter, however, best saddle I've ever had. I would say there is not really a break in period, but more of a bike adjustment period. It sits different so I adjusted accordingly. A 1/16 one direction and an 1/8" another direction, is all I needed. Just needed to be tweaked.

At nearly 1000 miles this year I'm pretty sure his ass is pretty well broken in.

What's left if it. Been losing weight and getting old. Old men lose their ass and I am no exception. The sit bones are just that, bones.

Did you end up liking the new saddle?

No, but didn't want to switch back with the season ending. Will put my Specialized back on for spring. Did get my 1100 miles in which ain't bad for a guy pushing 70 and mostly doing 25 mile fitness rides. Outside shot at 1200 if weather holds. Good 28 miles today over to Miss River today. But, damn, it gets dark early now with loss of daylight saving time and winter here with dat low sun angle.
