Gene Chizik Comments Rumor Thread

It's true. He is leaving after the season to go be the D Line coach at Texas. It is all over ESPN right now.

I am kidding of course

I will second that ! Being a Cub fan along with a Iowa State fan this has been one of the longest fall season I can remember. Throw on how we lost yesterday's game, and how Iowa won, it is just hurts !

Yeah but he went off defending one of his players who was getting dogged by the press, as opposed to himself.
 
We will never know whether it is true or not. Hell, I would be shocked if he hasn't said this to people in some shape or form. 'Buyers remorse' is common anytime someone makes a big decision. When you look at how difficult the transition has been for him up here, how could he not had some of those thoughts? I don't know how many losses Gene had his last 10 years as an assistant coach, but I imagine he's approaching that number in two years as a head coach. That's tough on anyone.

The best case scenario is that this passes with little fanfare. It's been around for almost a week now so hopefully nothing more serious comes out of this. The worst case scenario is that this is used negatively by other coaches when it comes to recruiting (although I'm not sure other programs need alot of additional ammo to combat ISU right now). I guess my other concern is that this little seed of doubt gets planted in some player's minds and in the fanbase as a whole. That could have serious long-term effects.

I think Gene is a good man. Hopefully, he proves to be a good head football coach at ISU. If he truly does feel this way, then I hope he moves on as quickly as possible so that we can get someone in here that wants to be here.
 
So why did we create a thread fueling this rumor? All your going to do is further melt the meltdown that is occurring...
 
I have no idea why a lot of things are going on.

- Why can't we play defense?
- Why can't we close out a game?
- Why can't we get players to stay in Ames?
- Where is Bass/Franklin?
- Why do we become mentally incapacitated inside the red zone?

This is just another one added onto a very long list.

I assume the thread was created since threads were going to be created anyway. I'd rather see one consolidated, moderated official thread than a multitude of unofficials.
 
If not true, Gene should be on the phone right now to that radio station demanding an on-air retraction, and threatening legal action otherwise. This rumor going on too long would cripple recruiting. You can't let lies slide, especially since the DJ doesn't identify his "source" from the OSU staff.
If nothing is done about it, I would assume the rumor to be true.

How will any of us know about this? Why are you automatically assuming those calls have not been made once Gene learned about it?

These calls typically don't take place on national television.
 
I disagree. If Gene responds to one unsubstantiated anonymous source rumor, he has to respond to all of them. Otherwise people will assume the ones he doesn't respond to must be true.

Let's end this-it was addressed in the press conference yesterday and Chizik said it "was a joke".

Can we trust our coach,please? He has bigger issues to deal with than to chase down what some radio jockey in Dallas says.

A fire can't burn without fuel, and the longer we talk about, the more fuel it has.

This is the last you will hear from me on this

Because I haven't heard of a public retraction yet, that's why. The rumor is now public, so should a retraction be. If he didn't demand a retraction, what's the point of a phone call?

If this rumor is true, do you think that Mr. Pollard oversold things at ISU? He is a great marketer/salesman.

Yeah, because Coach would certainly admit to it in that press conference if it were true.

It'd be more likely to have a coach talk about how bad his recruiting class is in spring camp.
