Gene Chizik Comments Rumor Thread

Reminds me of captain Kirk and how he handled his situation this summer. He tried to keep quiet but it kept cominhg back to the surface. Need to step up to the plate and tell the press.

This fan base really needed a W yesterday.

The Coaches and Players really needed that win yesterday. I feel more for them than I will ever feel for any of us.
Its hard to understand all of the pressure the players and staff feel. I can only imagine what Rodriguez is feeling at Michigan.
The Iowa State fan base has been brought up and let down so many times of recent, that they want instant gratification. Many were over their heads thinking Chizik would bring us bowl games in his first two seasons. We are the only fan base in the nation that will still pack up the stadium with 48-50,000 when the team is on a losing streak with no end in sight.
Coach Chizik knew what this fan base was before he got here, Mizzou game in 04, opportunity for Big 12 North.. stadium was bare. It was after that it picked up, but nothing such as when he stepped foot in the door and people were excited for him "Chizik, the Head Coach" Attendance rose and he had unrivaled fan support. 36000 people threw in their hats and said "Coach Chizik, Im in it to win it" another record number.
Imagine letting these people down week after week, Your young players, week after week.
Saturday was a shot to the heart, Chizik brought these guys up and had them believing that its never too late, The guys were playing for eachother this saturday and I cannot feel worse for Alexander Robinson, who wasnt given a chance to get in the endzone. It wasnt until after the call that they all realized how stupid it was. I know that moment for me was piercing. Imagine how far everyones heart on that sideline dropped as Alexander Robinson was cut down.
The pressures of being a Head Coach or a Division 1 football player are more than anyone could explain. Especially for a first time Head Coach and 18 year old true freshman players. There is a lot of heartache right now, But I assure you one thing, Chizik chose the Cyclones, and I know he is dedicated and truely involved in getting this going in the right direction.

Sorry for the length

Not sure if it's true or not but I'm getting word that as a result of this rumor that Diamond Dave is no longer 200 percent behind Chizik. If true, the hits keep coming. I guess we'll know for sure tomorrow night.

Haha!

Thanks for lightening up this depressing thread.

Does anyone think Chizik will address this and shoot it down at the beginning of the call-in show tomorrow night? I don't think he will because he never seems to use the show as a platform for any useful information, but it would be nice.

PS. this information in the hand of players will cause nothing but more gut aches for them.
Again, i really feel for them in all of this

If this is true and he does leave, which I really hope doesn't happen, we need to hire a coach with experience. And none of this up and coming coordinators stuff again.

I hope not. This is a completely unsubstantiated rumor of some guy on the radio in another state heard something from someone who heard something from an assistant coach in yet another state. If Chizik addresses this one it will only fuel the fire of talk radio hosts and internet bloggers to create more rumors. And then he has to address each and every one....if not, what happens the first time he doesn't address one? People will assume it's true.

The best thing Chizik can do is ignore this and let it die a natural lingering pointless internet death.

Most likely he made an off-hand comment to one of his colleagues that the ISU job was harder than he thought or that losing was hard on his family, and by the time it got repeated 3 or 4 times it had been exaggerated. No big deal.

So you're saying there won't be a letdown this Saturday...whew!

That is going several steps beyond even what the rumors suggest is true.

I hate to give it credibility by addressing it, but if Gene Chizik were to bail out now, it would be a stake through the heart of his career, and he'd spend years rehabbing his image in the eyes of other Athletic Directors, before anyone would even begin to consider him to head their programs.

No way he's going anywhere. I doubt very much he even wants to.

I think this is all a case of Bad Reporting. That's why journalists need to have multiple sources to talk about a story. This Brian Esteridge is an idiot. It was irresponsible for him to mention it on the air. He probably thought it was no big deal because he's in Texas. Why don't we let this Brian Esteridge know what we think about him? 103.3 FM ESPN Dallas - Fort Worth - Contact Us - ESPN Radio

I was told by a rival radio host that Esteridge said he hates working at that radio show and Baylor fans. And he wish he never took the job with Galloway because he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I listen to this show on a regular basis (they're on during my afternoon drive home). Last I heard, GAC (Galloway and company) is regularly getting drilled in the ratings by the other local sports talk station, 1310 The Ticket. The problem with 1310 (from my perspective) is that about half the time, they degenerate into juvenile potty talk and other things completely irrelevant to sports, so I don't listen much to them.

Randy Galloway has been a newspaper reporter in this market for years, and now does this radio show. He plays the part of the gruffy old man with the over-the-top sports opinions. I haven't quite figured out if Galloway is just playing for ratings, or if he actually believes the stupid things that usually come from his mouth.

Estridge is the "voice of reason" that reels Galloway back in. He sounds reasonable compared to Galloway, but his shallowness comes through when he and Galloway are doing interviews. His questions are generally shallow and rather irrelevant. They were interviewing Mike Leech last week, and I felt kind of embarrassed whenever Estridge asked a question. At least Galloway can ask a decent interview question.

Anyway, I didn't hear the thing about Chizik. I did hear them reporting that Patterson was leaving for KSU, and then later Patterson was on to straighten them out about that matter.

If it's true that kids of ISU "fans" are coming up to Chizik's kids and insulting Gene, then the ISU fan base has truly lost its collective mind.

I know I was just making a point that if we were to do this all over again I would prefer to hire a coach with some experience. And I am in no way saying that Gene shouldn't be the head coach of this football team.

I am sure that this thread will give the DMReg and Jon Miller all the information they need to run in depth analysis on the topic. For the next few weeks I expect to see both of them dig deep into the root of the story because that is what they do with all non-important sports stories in the state of Iowa.

I doubt that it's true; maybe a few comments about losses, but that comes with the territory with being children of celebrities. Happens in every college town in America.
As George Perles once said, "fans take football seriously, and sure there's pressure. Otherwise we would all be paid like high school PE teachers."
