Gary Indiana Trip

Found a smoking deal on an AirBNB and am planning a site seeing trip for early June. Looking for any input on things to do and places to eat. TIA!

I know this thread is probably sarcasm, but Indiana Dunes which is just down the road from Gary is a pretty cool area. Bike trails, hiking the Dunes and surprisingly nice beaches on Lake Michigan. We went there for a weekend last summer.

We’re settling on Downtown Ames since I found out Sweet Caroline’s has Uno.

Waiting for CF thread on what should I do and where should I eat on my Blue Origin/SpaceX/whatever trip to space.

Funny story about Gary: when I was a kid we were driving back from the east coast to Iowa from family vaca. It was late and we were looking for a hotel. We stopped in Gary about 11 pm and a super 8 and the hotel desk person looked at the 10 of us (all small town Iowa people) and said you can’t stay here, it’s not safe. Drive another 30 minutes and find a hotel there.

Well played! I'm guessing Gary has some amazing strip clubs you don't want to miss!

Sadly the most rundown city I've seen in awhile was Gary.

Cairo, Illinois has to be #1 for me.

You'd think the city at the confluence of the Mississippi and the Ohio -- two of the country's most important waterways -- would be a great American city with a ton of history and grandeur about it.

Nope. The exact opposite of that.
