Gary Barta everybody

They didn't that is why this doesn't add up. They march out of the stadium, to their busses on the north side of JTS. There are thousands of people around at that point and only a few if any would have beer in there hands. Most just want to get out of there. I would imagine they go out the NE gate after the crowd has died down a little. Walk past the Jake, the Iowa Semi, Iowa team buses, to the band bus. At no point do they come in contact with many people with beer at that point of the day. There is also police and security and cameras. Plus the Iowa band director never said anything about it to ISU's band director after the game.
Part of the problem is they went out the northwest gate when there were still a ton of people trying to leave.

I don't know if this is when stuff happened, but leaving the stadium from the northwest after the game was a nightmare. The exit is already bottle necked due to the construction. Iowa's band took that route to leave too and took up a large width of the already small pathway. The entire time the band was marching through there, they were doing their typical chants, and playing songs, including the Iowa fight song. Then they had to cut across the crowd trying to leave to get to their buses making 5,000+ fans wait for them to cross. All this after fans just spent almost 7 hours in the stadium to sit through a frustrating loss. So I can see how some people might have been annoyed at having loud instruments blown in their face by the opposing teams band and might have said something.
Not very self aware. Probably not a great idea as the visiting band to be chanting and playing your fight songs as you march through the home crowd in the immediate aftermath of your 1 pt victory. Kinda comes across as rubbing it in.

I mean how is it even possible to throw a glass beer bottle and sexually assault someone with four officers present and not face immediate consequences?

And apparently most of the issues theyre talking about occurred leaving the stadium. I asked earlier to confirm, but weren't their buses near the gates?

That's maybe a few minute walk between the area where the fans start colliding with the path from the field. But somehow during that small segment of a couple hundred feet, **** absolutely went to hell, but yet not only did none of the police assigned to them see it, none of the other police or third-party security apparently saw it (and the area near the gates usually has security at it, even after the game). Nor have i seen any reports from fans saying they saw **** breaking out there- even visiting fans. And i assume we have cameras covering the gate areas as well, apparently those saw nothing.

Well, this certainly clears things up! I'm not sure why student privacy would preclude them from sharing specifics about the number of students who experienced issues or the nature of the incident(s). Perhaps they're staying vague since an investigation is forthcoming.

Of course more vagueness and 'not elaborating on details'.

So they left out the gate closest to their busses where there would be very very little chance of beer being there. People trying to get through the band line isn't assault.

If "it took a number of days" that doesnt help out Barta's release on Monday.

The latter portion of that message sounds a lot more like a guy who wants to move on, not someone seeking an investigation. It just adds to the confusion.

The only scenario I can think of that ties this all together is that crappy but fairly routine behavior took place, Barta knows there isn't much to it, but has to go through the motions here because of his reputation for insensitivity. He's trying to walk the tightrope of showing he's taking it seriously without actually doing anything about it because the allegations are weak and/or can't be proven and it will only prolong the embarrassment for both schools.

I have no idea if that's true but it would explain most, if not all, of the weird behavior this week.

This is almost as dumb of a statement as Barta’s on Monday was.

"Student privacy" does not preclude those things. I hope those private students are privately sharing more detailed allegations with the police!

If the U of I continues to try to keep the investigation "internal", then we will know that the safety of students is still not the top priority there regardless of how many times the University mouths it.

Two wrongs don't make a right but perhaps the UI band provoked the alleged assaults with their "**** State!" chants after the game. If this is what happened it makes BOTH universities look horrible. The UI band should be held accountable and the individuals responsible for the alleged assaults should be held accountable and never be allowed at an ISU Athletics event again.
Almost like the UIFMB may have taken a page out of the Stanford's Marching Bands book....

If something really serious happened, I hope they can find the idiot/s and arrest them, etc. There's absolutely no excuse for some of the actions that the Iowa Band is alleging here.

It's just odd that in this day and age there aren't videos of anything, and noboby reported anything whatsoever to the police that were there protecting the band that night? But if something was "going down", everyone and their sister would have had their phones out taping what was going on you'd think.

I do know for a fact that at Iowa the ISU band isn't even allowed to drop their band off right by the stadium like Iowa can at ISU. The ISU band gets dropped off a ways away and they march to the stadium, while Iowa fans yell and throw just about everything imaginable at them. And then last year, Barta puts them in the very top corner of the stadium too.

I really hope nothing too serious happened to the Iowa band this past weekend, that would be terrible. But I do know that Barta handled it about as bad as you could by releasing press release that threw ISU under the bus before he really even had any idea what happened.

If they come back make them stay in their section until the stadium is cleared. If there is no one to interact with there shouldn't be any problems.

I'm pretty sure there was plenty of trash talking going on by everyone that was there from both ISU and Iowa.

Yep, this is sort of what I think.

Why in the world do bands travel anyway? Never made sense to me?

Why put these kids on either side through this? It's obvious that there's some total drunken idiot losers on both fanbases that for some reason treat the opposing band like s**t. So just avoid it. I really doubt ISU fans want to watch the Iowa band at halftime in Jack Trice, and I'm sure Iowa fans don't want to watch ISU's band at halftime in Kinnick either. For instance.... when the ISU band on Saturday played the ISU Fight Song... Iowa's band would start up immediately and try to play over them. Who wants to hear that?

Seems like a huge waste of money for both schools to bring the band IMO, and I'd bet the kids don't really want to make the trip anyway.

If adult fans can no longer act like adults, then maybe it's just time to quit bringing the bands.

I know for certain that I would not want to be a member of ISU's band travelling to Kinnick next year. I feel for them.

So has any police report been filed yet? Or are we still just ******** on social media?

Only social media, but the investigation is reopened. It just boggles my mind that with 4 cops escorting them all this happened (allegedly).

I don’t want to think that that they would make this up. And we do have some really ****** people in this fan base.

But it just doesn’t make sense that this is only on social media. Hopefully, they went to the authorities, and there is an investigation happening.
