Gary Barta everybody

You literally took everything I said out of context and bolded the part of my post that helps support your case. You should go work for Fox News.

No, I didn’t. You suggested the UI band provoked the alleged attacks and should be held accountable for their actions. There is no context where that is a sane reaction to the situation.

Again, you have no idea what steps have been taken thus far. You have no idea if those individuals have already contacted police. You have no idea if the band members were told not to report anything to the police and to let the University handle the situation. You know nothing, just like the rest of us.
I may know more than you think. The University is obstructing justice if they forbade victims to contact the proper authorities ( which sure as hell isnt the U of I where a criminal investigation is concerned).

If victims and witnesses were improperly instructed at first, now that they are taking shots at the University they should do the right thing and make reports to law enforcement authorities.

Here's how this thing should work:

1. Victims and witnesses should cooperate with law enforcement.
2. Once they have, we should ALL shut the **** up and give law enforcement a reasonable period of time. No more **** posting on social media!!
3. Once the investigation had concluded, we should all be free to discuss and question whatever conclusions were reached.
4. Everyone can probably agree that Barta is an incompetent idiot.

No, I just tend to think people in these situations are usually telling the truth. Of course, if you think nothing happened here, I am sure you would also tell all the former Iowa State marching band members (and ISU fans in general) in this thread that they are lying about the incidents they have alleged experiencing, being that there is no physical evidence or police reports to corroborate them.
I don't think "nothing happened". I know for a fact that they were booed (although not by me). I'm pretty sure things were said - sadly, that happens every year at alternating venues, it seems. However, IF it rises to the level of assault (sexual or otherwise) it should have been reported to the FOUR OFFICERS THAT WERE THERE TO PROTECT THEM. Is that clear enough for you?

the broken rib thing should be easy enough to prove. well, not prove that it was an isu person that caused it, but that it happened. You would think that someone could demonstrate that an iowa hawkeye band member was checked out at a hospital, either in ames or iowa city. Or that someone at least received a brief checkup after a fall. some sort of record keeping exists somewhere.

That’s pretty low, even for you. Your trolling shtick is normally fair game, but let’s try and leave a situation like this one alone.
I love how sanctimonious you can be, know what was posted here 2 years ago, while not admit even having a previous username. If you want anything left alone, then don't click the thread, or take a break from CF.

The four officers were just the Iowa ones. Ames and ISU also have some there.

Only Gary Barta could engineer a situation where there is an alleged assault against Iowa band members in Ames and he comes out looking the worst of all involved parties.

None of this makes any sense. In four days Barta has gone from believing their accusations so strongly that he issues an irresponsible press release to apparently shutting the investigation down and forcing the students to air their grievances on social media.

IMO there's little doubt Pollard would make every attempt to do the right thing if he were given the chance to do so. Barta has made his and the police's jobs immeasurably harder.

How he still has a job and got an extension is beyond me, but if he survives then there is a lot of things he knows on some powerful people.

A little off topic:
I personally thought Jamie was too quick with Bubu being suspended and subsequently not play. I think Fred wanted to play him. But again, I'm not in anyones shoes to really know for a fact how that all went down.

If something happened to anyone: Iowa or ISU fans, Jamie would respond. To see his heartbreak over Celia shows the type of person he is. Someone I want in charge here for a long time.

Wasn't that early in Leath's tenure? Leath was always really hung up on that and maybe JP didn't want to cross a new president. I'm just speculating.

I agree, it should have been reported, but the fact that it was not does not mean that no assaults occurred. I can assure you that if this happened to me as a 19 year old, I would have had no clue how to react, and would probably have waited to call my parents later that night or the next morning. Plenty of Iowa State fans (both former marching band members and regular fans) have claimed that they have been pelted with beer cans, spat on, had urine dumped on them, etc. The universal consensus amongst Iowa State fans is belief or acceptance that these events occurred. I am simply questioning why the recounting of these events is presumed to be true, yet when Iowa State fans are the ones allegedly engaging in those activities, it is presumed to be false or exaggerated because no video evidence has been released to the public, and no police report immediately filed.

I think everyone can agree that this whole situation was handled poorly, and that Barta unsurprisingly has turned this into a cluster****. I think everyone can also agree that Iowa State band members have likely had similar, if not worse, incidents perpetrated against them. But the victim blaming and denial that these events occurred by many Iowa State fans, simply because of the way it was handled by an incompetent athletic director, is nothing more than tribalism.

I guess it wasn't clear enough.

However, IF it rises to the level of assault (sexual or otherwise) it should have been reported

This is not victim blaming, nor is it a denial that anything happened. It is a statement of fact.

I guess I wasn’t clear enough that I wasn’t necessarily talking about you specifically, but rather the majority of Iowa State fans in this thread, on Twitter, etc.

Did they report these incidents to one of the four law enforcement officers who were escorting them?

There's a reason the message to the band members said "members who were assaulted can file a police report, but noted, “Law enforcement is limited in the actions they can take in response to reports to the media or online.”"

Sounds like a nice way of saying 'hey dumbasses, go talk to the proper channels if you were assaulted instead of going off on social media'

Meh, it's much easier to make **** up all over social media than it is to make **** up to the cops and risk a false report charge.
