Gary Barta everybody

The Sunday after the game, before this all blew up, there were posters on Iowa message boards who claimed that the U of I received numerous (as in way more than 2) phone calls from the parents of UIMB members complaining about the situation. Seems rather unlikely that this is all made up.

Well I mean if its on message boards it has to be true....

Either way this whole thing is a cluster ****. Barta should have just stayed off Twitter. My mind is blown that somebody who was groped didn't report said incident if there were so many witnesses.

A lot of people who are sexually assaulted don’t report the incidents, many times because they are embarrassed, they don’t want the attention that comes along with filing charges, etc. I think everyone can agree that this has been handled poorly by Barta every step of the way.

Does anyone know if the ones that posted it on social media are the ones that were allegedly assaulted?

I don't think anyone knows what is going on. I'm just responding to Benji and saying if that was the case they're stupid. If it's not it's a moot point

It seems pretty likely that it was overstated.

I'm not trolling here. If you go to social media instead of the police you're stupid

Lol Jamie Pollard was ready to comply with the police and provide video surveillance records for the police to investigate. For whatever reason Barta decided to pull the plug.

Funny to me that these two messages were in order. Barta, apparently also, went to social media first before going to the police. At least as far as we know. Also stupid, if true.

This better finally be a fire-able offense.

What if they went to the police and put it on social media? It doesn't have to be an either or type situation.

The kids are kids. They don't know the proper way to handle these situations. Barta on the other hand, is a B10 AD. He knows better and yet that didn't stop him from being in, yet again, another PR nightmare.

So let's say there was video on the band the whole time? Why would a couple students who weren't groped say they witnessed it?

One thing is obvious. It’s pretty clear that the Iowa band has been treated very well in Ames before this year.

We all had heard that the Iowa state band has been treated badly in Iowa city. But the Iowa band members are SHOCKED that they had beer thrown on them. It must never have happened before.

It does seem unlikely it was made up with the pushback coming from the band now. It being poorly handled by Barta doesn’t matter much to me because it’s te not like banning some fans has to happen in a court of law.

So you are telling me they were subjected to a lot of the same behavior that the ISUCFVMB has been subject to in Iowa City for years?
Two wrongs don't make a right but perhaps the UI band provoked the alleged assaults with their "**** State!" chants after the game. If this is what happened it makes BOTH universities look horrible. The UI band should be held accountable and the individuals responsible for the alleged assaults should be held accountable and never be allowed at an ISU Athletics event again.

I've been yelled at by plenty of Iowa fans in my years and not once have I assaulted them. I may have used some colorful words back but there is no cause for physical violence, especially against a band member.
