Garrett

I could not agree more, I cringe everytime he touches the ball. Too many careless turnovers. The defense knows that he's not a scoring threat. Buckley needs to get some more minutes...

This may not be a popular idea around here, but I think if the reigns were loosened a bit on DG he would play much better. I don't think he is the right player for this system, and I think that when he can display a bit of creativity and play within his game he is ok. I would love to see him develop his jumper a bit over the summer, get a little stronger, and take over the 2 spot when Colvin takes over the point. He is not meant to set up an offense and make good decisions, but rather is a slasher, playmaker and hopefully can develop into a shooter.

He needs to be able to make a layup also.

I say start Petey back at the 1 on Saturday, but then Boozer at the 2? Man we need Buckley in there

There's no need to embarrass the guy by pulling his starting spot. He has had some good games already this year -- it seems it is all in his head right now. Just put another guard in as the first off the bench and try to ease up some of their minutes. It can't hurt.

Why do we need to coddle these guys? BF was very critical of his players after some poor games, shook things up and things got better.

IMO, Greg should do something very similar.

Hell, he was publicly critical of Craig. He apologized, but what he said was done. Boom, Craig has really come alive - even before Saturday.

DG needs some tough love, because whatever is currently going on certainly is not working.

I've started threads about how I wish McDermott would be harder on players for making mistakes, and that I think he is afraid of losing more players. I understand that.

I also think each player needs to be handled differently. I think it's pretty evident that DG's slump is in his head because he has not even come close to playing this poorly earlier in the year. What happens if we start Boozer or Buckley on Saturday, they fail, and DG's confidence is absolutely shot? Well, I guess we'd lose anyway.

It's not about embarrasing players...it's about winning games. We need to do what's going to give us the best chance to win...I think Garrett has a lotta potential, but right now he is really hurting us on the court.

It is time to experiment. The season is over.

IMO, without a doubt, Boozer has earned more time - especially on the defensive end. He should get more minutes.

Buckley looked good near the end of the game at Iowa and then we have not seen much of him since - give the kid a shot.

Petey is playing well - still rebounding and not turning it over at will.

I agree with this 100%

Right, we have nothing to lose. Doing the same things and expecting magical results is insanity.

Not once did I say do the same thing. I've made multiple posts now proposing to give some of his minutes to other players, and I've said so in a much more vulgar way in person.

I didn't agree with that post at all. Diante turns the ball over a lot in transition and continues to turn the ball over when all he has to do is pass the ball to the wing. McDermott isn't keeping DG from driving the lane either, DG is. I'm sure he will bounce back but I doubt letting him run wild is the right thing to do, espeically with his confidence the way it is now.

I would like to see Buckley given a 2 game guarantee to be the starting guy. It's too hard for a freshmen to start mid season in Big 12 play thinking if I make 1 mistake I am back on the bench. He needs to be able to shake off some early nerves and be able to gain some confidence and comfort. I would like to see Greg tell him he's the man for the next 2 games.... with game three being how he improves and ends up at the end of game 2. If not, no long term loss... PG position back up for grabs starting next year either way. Take off all pressure.

Tell DG the same thing... about Buckley being the PG for the next 2 games. Let him know his minutes are limited and at risk of being lost for the remainder of the year.

Let the best player win... I think Buckley, given some real time game experience may surprise. If not, I don't think our record will be any worse 2 games from now, but at least we will learn something, wake up DG, and get Buckley some experience.
