Games take too long?

Sitting here watching Purdue and Northwestern. I really think the length off college football games is getting ridiculous. Game started at 7 and by almost 10 it was only part way through the 3rd quarter. Seems like this problem has only gotten worse. Just think college football would be helped if 3 hour games were the norm again and not 4 hour ones.

Overall not a bad first game though.

Also watching this game. Was planning on watching until the end but I'm finding myself about to fall asleep on the couch. At this rate, game won't be over until after 11.

I agree, especially when every play can be condensed into a 30 minute game film. The other "stuff" shouldn't take 3.5 hours.

Purdue definitely seems to be throwing incomplete passes then burning the whole play clock, but man the length of commercials for the National broadcast is nuts. They definitely can save a lot of time by cutting out some of that.

I know there are not many soccer fans around here, but it is so nice to sit down and know that the game will be done in 2 hours. Easy to plan things around it and doesn’t take up all of your free time
Anymore I find myself watching it more. I definitely appreciate watching 90 minutes of uninterrupted action with commercials only at halftime.

It kinda funny too because one of the commentators even said during the game to Herby that the game won’t be over till after midnight. This was around 10 eastern time.

Games are too long, if ISU isn’t playing I sometimes just lose interest unless it’s a very thrilling game.

More possessions = more clock stoppages = longer game.

This game is on possession #26, including:
10 scoring drives
8 three-and-outs
3 turnovers

I wish American sports would take advantage of naturally occurring downtime in the game to squeeze in commercials.

Instead of watching trainers work on an injured player for 5 minutes, show commercials then. Instead of watching the replay official scratch his ars for 3 minutes, play a commercial.

Then you wouldn't have to stop play for "media timeouts" all game long. The fact games are stopped simply to play commercials is exhausting and soul sucking. That is the one thing soccer has on every other sport: continuous play.

I've been watching a lot more soccer and rugby lately if only for this reason. I'm glad the MLS hasn't decided to "america-fy" the game by putting in a bunch of commercials.

Rugby is a great game. I played for ISU back in the early 00's

The worse is sitting in the stadium for a long TV time out shortly followed by another TV time out. You also have to love the TV time out for some injury that take 2 secs to take care of.

Think it's time to change the stop the clock after EVERY 1st down rule?

Back when they use to run the ball all the time I could maybe see that rule but now it just causes games to take forever. If you want to have it like the last 2 minutes of each half then maybe fine.
