Gamblin…Smoke and Fire

I think this whole thing is an elaborate hoax and I'm not believing anything until I hear it from JP.
It does feel like I haven't heard much about this outside of Iowa media. It certainly hasn't taken off in other states. Of course the state of Iowa comes down way too hard and excessive on this when literally no other state is...pisses me off.

Does any of this actually matter? Who actually carried out the punishment on Iowa baseball?

Because from the last CF podcast it sounds like the NCAA is waiting on the Iowa CSI, or whatever, to announce their findings.

Am I the only one that thinks if they were gambling (and knew that shouldn't), they should be kicked off the team? I don't care who it is. Seems like it would be a good "culture"/"winning in the margins" move.
Should an OWI get you kicked off the team?

It’s going to be really bad, fellas. Hate to say it. They’re making an example of these guys for both Iowa and ISU. Iowa wrestling and baseball are going to be hit hard as well as ISU football. Looks like only a walk-on WR for Iowa is in trouble.

I will, of course, wait and see for the who and the penalty, but it is potentially 5 starters wiped off the board in football. Three on offense and two on defense.

Yes, that will hurt. And it immediately adversely affects our depth.

Still hoping our players won't have to face a stiff penalty.

Without naming a specific player who might not be able to play, do you think Rocco Becht has what it takes to lead this team? I would like to see JJ Kohl be able to develop as a backup, if possible.

And how important was it that we recently signed another QB in Tanner Hughes. What do the coaches think of him?

It adds to the uncertainty about the upcoming season, but that is the beauty of college sports. Who knew Brock Purdy would emerge 5 games into his freshman year. Or David Montgomery supplant Mike Wagner game 1.

I am still optimistic. If we lose 5 starters, then we need to be solid in all aspects of the game: offense, defense and special teams. And we can't have any weak position groups.

You said "If you aren't into podcasts then you aren't into college football"

Personally I think what you said is dumb. I watch tons of college games but I don't watch sports talk shows, listen to sports talk radio or podcasts because I don't really care what the "talking heads" have to say. I enjoy watching the games, I don't need to listen to or watch people talking about the same thing over and over.
Sorry just seeing this but had to chime in.. I’m relatively “young” (27 years old) and podcasts have been my medium for a bunch of years to listen to. I consume all types though and don’t think it matters lol. My original post way back that sort of started this scuttle was strictly brining up the fact that podcasts are in fact, huge. I love that live shows have started putting them out with their content because you can just pull it up and listen and feel right in the mix.

I can understand the podcast thing. Being older, I'm not too into it. but I can see the draw. You can listen while doing other stuff, driving to work, etc.

Strength thru adversity!

Still can't believe Mike Warren fell off the face of the Earth with Campbell. He ran all over teams his freshman year.
