Future Big 12 FB Opponents/Schedule Announced

100% the only national media account that even made a big deal about this yesterday was the Sickos Committee, soooo that shows you how people view this "rivalry"
I get it. But this is like picking up a quarter off the ground. Is it life-changing money? No. But it's not that much effort either.

I'm done talking about it. It will all get changed before 2027 anyway...

It's not that it is a HUGE deal, it's NOT the Red River Shootout or the Iron Bowl - it's a medium deal at best.

It's that it was an even smaller deal to keep it alive. Like, if you made that one change to preserve annual Farmageddon, there is zero downside or negative impact to anyone.

The only thing that I can think of is they didn't want to do ANY protected rivalries at all, just rando the schedule completely. But they just couldn't part with AZ-ASU, KU-KSU, and UU-BYU as those are huge. So they have to bite down and have a few. But then how TCU-Baylor got included is beyond me, but whatever.
TCU and Baylor a.) have played each other 110 times, which is more than ISU/KSU and b.) are like 10 miles from each other. ISU vs KSU aren’t even in bordering states

We’ll just agree to disagree. But the last thing I’ll say is we don’t know that making it annual would have had zero negative impacts.

The Big 12 has to look out for 16 schools’ interests, not just ISU and KSU’s and we don’t know the unintended consequences it could have caused. The conference clearly prioritized teams playing each other home and home every 4 years rather than keeping mid-to-low level rivalries

Trying to act like it doesn't matter is different than making the compromise.
Fair enough. But if I was in the ATH dept’s shoes, there are a hell of a lot more important things than not playing KSU for one year in 2027.

When it’s that low on the totem pole, it probably doesn’t matter, and I’m not sure how I would react to a few fans emailing me about something so trivial.

Gotcha. So for a whopping 10% of the series’ existence and notably after other, longer series ended (Mizzou, Nebraska).

When I was at ISU early to mid 2000s, no one called it Farmageddon. And it was probably the 3rd or 4th hyped of ISU’s matchups in the Big 12 North (behind Nebraska, Mizzou, and Colorado)
This. Farmageddon is a manufactured attempt to elevate a long time conference opponent into a rival. Which in my opinion was mostly done in response to conference realignment. We don't have a lot of true rivals to begin with, so when Nebby and Mizzou bolted we had to play up our history with who we had left. It helped build a sense of community and excitement among the schools who were still here.

If this game had a trophy and traditions going back to the majority of the series, or if the Farmageddon name was older than a 5th grader I may feel different. But it isn't a huge rivalry, it is just two teams who have played a bunch of games.

Big12/ ISU/Pollard in a joint response to those being upset was posted moments ago

“When my time on earth is gone, and my activities here are passed, I want them to bury me upside down, and my critics can kiss my ass,"

ehhh maybe that was Bobby Knight but seems fitting

As I'm a little bit of a younger fan that bridges the different realignment periods, 32 years old, I always thought we had more of a rivalry/hatred with Nebraska and Mizzou.
I remember going to games as a kid and seeing all those Cornhuskers everywhere, we hated them so much.
Mizzou we had the Telephone trophy.
In terms of our football "rivals" historically, I'd rate them as such:
1. Iowa
2. Nebraska
3. Mizzou
4. KSU

KSU only really became a thing once NU and Mizzou left.
Even then, OSU has been a much better series between with ISU in the past 10-15 years.
Also the OSU fans HATE playing us since we ruined their dreams multiple times.

I love the rivalry with OSU. We’ve stubbed their toe many a time. Throw in the basketball matchups over the years, and it’s a great conference matchup. Hell we didn’t win a hoops game in Stillwater for like 30 years.

A rivalry is 2 sided. We were in no shape or form rivals with Nebraska.

I can’t believe people actually emailed Pollard about this like it’s his fault or something. Sure, I wish KSU was on the schedule but the issue doesn’t lie with the ADs. I’m shocked he actually takes the time to read and respond to that garbage
Who would you say it lies with?

The focus on KSU is too narrow imo. The conference should have had three “every year” opponents for every school. Mundo’s idea is the winner.

And I can’t turn italics off for some reason. This is NOT a tribute to Surly!

It just feels like 4 protected rivalries in a 16 team conference is going too far the wrong way for me. Maybe it's the future now but it makes everything feel like more of a scheduling alliance than an actual conference. I guess we're all just in wait-and-see mode until the ACC blows up anyway.

For some reason many on here are excited to play against Mid Houston and UCF teams. Hope that generates as much excitement for the fanbase as a whole, but I doubt it. Iowa has had plenty of attendance issues the past few years with their boring schedules against Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana, etc.
Just thinking about this, I see your point. However, as CW and Blum pointed out yesterday on the Podcast - if ISU is 8-2 when they play, do we really care if they are playing UCF? Winning will draw the fans.

It would be really easy to have both.

They're just going along with the company line here, too, which is fine. The Big 12 clearly wanted to limit protected rivalries. JP has a weird desire to play down KSU. So he was more than happy to go along with it.

The Big 12's desire to make everyone play each other regularly is the right move. You just could have accomplished it without breaking one of the coolest streaks in college football, in a game that's absolutely become a big deal to both sides.
