Future Big 12 FB Opponents/Schedule Announced

Also, it's not that I don't like the pod idea, but that proposal scared me. With their only being three teams in the east, someone was going to have to join their pod. Whichever school got stuck in that pod was going to be unhappy.

If I'm gambling, I take what we got compared any chance of being in a pod with UCF, West Virginia, in Cincinnati.
I get it is a favorable schedule but ucf, Cincinnati just doesn't excite me like k state does, which will result in fewer tix sold. I think, but maybe I'm wrong.

Just listened to the Williams and Blum podcast today,

I love those two, but they’ve never had a worse take.

C-Dub sounded excited to be ducking K-State, which is a loser mentality that Cyclone fans need to snap out of.

Blum pretty much equated a protected Farmageddon with Georgia playing at Texas A&M once in 12 years and insinuated that it would throw off competitive balance. It’s one freakin’ game and would in no way prevent K-State from playing every team every other season.

C’mon guys. It’s the longest consecutive rivalry in college football. It’s survived the Great Depression, world wars, and a global pandemic. We can’t let the conference just kill it off without a fight.
ITS NOT BEING KILLED OFF

why are you acting like it's going away forever?

It's one GD year.

I could see this being floated and Houston throwing an absolute hissy fit.
So what? They just arrived. They can't be throwing their weight around. They certainly have more history with Cincinnati & UCF than we do.

I can't believe all the @$$holes in this thread acting like they're smarter than everyone else because they think annual rivalries in the Big 12 doesn't matter. You're the idiots. This sh*t schedule is also neglecting Cincinnati/West Virginia, UCF/Houston, Baylor/Texas Tech. Yeah, none of them are Ohio State/Michigan, but to not even try to cultivate multiple regularly occurring interesting matchups is a huge missed opportunity.

The schedule makers must be the geniuses behind the Precious Moments Trophy and the Bugle Logo.

With all the emphasis from BY on marketing your product, it just seems like a big miss to take a memorable and marketable name like "FARMAGEDDON" and not max it out.

I don't like that it will miss a year every so often, when it just doesn't need to be that way. Just seems like such an own goal.

I really don't like the "well, KU is their bigger rival" response either. It's 100% true, won't argue that. But it's not even about "are we their biggest rival?" or "well, its not really a rivalry" by some invented definition. It's the longest continuously played series - why kill it for no real reason? Why not maximize the value?

Maybe BY is playing 4D chess though - cancelling it now for some press, but bringing it back later when the ACC teams join - for more press!
It’s not the longest, active continuous series in FBS. Wisconsin/Minny, NC State/Wake Forest, OU/OSU, and KU/KSU (and Lehigh/Lafayette) all have longer, active continuous series.

ISU is geographically closer to those schools than any other conference mate. We would be ripe for the picking in that model

I will say it one more time and then exit the thread. No matchup is getting killed off and no matchup like Baylor/tech, k state/Iowa state, ok at/Iowa state will be skipped regularly. 3x in 4 years, 6x in 8. This isn’t the SEC model where we won’t play Tech for 10 years. Get a grip people.

I'm surprised, I thought more people cared about the continuously played for 100 years part of the ksu/isu rivalry. Obviously lots of people do care but I thought for sure folks on CF would be more upset in general.

CF is filled with whiners who care about easy Ws and money ( tip time at midnite sure as long as it is on espn+++ for a extra $10/month) more than anything. Then they ***** about we didn't play "real" competition when we do good.
It is actually a sad thing this rivalry is ending on a yearly basis.

It is the longest never interrupted series, having survived 2 world wars, 2 pandemics, and the great depression...

Pete usually has bad takes, so...

Agree with a lot of the ones in this podcast tho. Like or hate him, he's a Big12 supporter and was during many times when few else would fight for the conference.

Are K-State fans upset?

Right, but that’s not what he wrote. And it will continue to survive. Presumably we’ll play them 3 out of every 4 years

Would there still be this amount of outcry if the game had been cancelled in 2020 due to Covid (as other, longer uninterrupted series were). It easily could have happened. KSU had a bunch of Covid cases and lost 45-0.

My guess is no because this “uninterrupted” qualifier is a feather in the cap for a lot of our fans for some reason.

Okay, I'll pile on here. I don't consider KSU a rival any more than other traditional conference foes. The whole longest running continuous series thing is just due to how the history of conference membership played out, it isn't because the game was so important to both schools that they made a point to schedule it. It is the answer to a trivia question that most fans wouldn't know even among our own schools.

Fans beating their chest about the importance of this series feels a lot like when fans were holding up AAU membership as how we were going to get into the B1G. Nobody outside ISU gave a **** about it.

I see KSU at the same level of rivalry for us as KU or OSU. I'd throw Mizzou in there too if they hadn't left. Just a nearby school that has been in our conference/division for a damn long team. But I don't hate them like I hate iowa.

For some reason many on here are excited to play against Mid Houston and UCF teams. Hope that generates as much excitement for the fanbase as a whole, but I doubt it. Iowa has had plenty of attendance issues the past few years with their boring schedules against Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana, etc.
