Fun thread on Hawkeye website

Couldn't have said it better

1. NIT final better than NCAA 1 and done (Depends on how you look at things. Going to the NCAA's this year would have been awesome. Most Iowa fans realized we blew that opportunity when we lost to Nebraska on the road. At the time still trying to figure out how to not choke at the end of the game. Developmentally, getting to the NIT final is better than only going to the NCAA 1 and done. The opportunity to get more game time experience and mature as a team is undeniable.
2. NIT success implies guaranteed NCAA next year(Historically this statement has proven false. Have I seen that posted sure but you are implying that all Hawk fans think this way when all actuality it is a small percentage. Usually a thought that comes from the fringe group of Hawk fans. I know the Cyclones have a vocal fringe group so you should be aware of the possibility that it exists in most team's fans.
3. Possible Big 10 title favorites next year (Actually, not that far fetched when you look at the BIG landscape next year and what we have coming back and adding to the team. We lose one and gain three. We also have a more mature team that not only is playing into April and building on that team chemistry we are also going to Europe which will include the three additions which help with team chemistry in the fall.)
4. Can't understand why media isn't giving attention to the Big NIT event. (Again, fringe group. No need to explain. Who doesn't like hearing about their favorite team doing good things. We just happen to not want the season to end because we love watching this team compete and how hard they work on the floor and have a great time doing it. )
5. 4 star and 5 star recruits should be lining up to play for Iowa with the NIT success(Again, Fringe group...no need to explain)
6. NIT success shows that NCAA selection committee was wrong not to select Iowa(Most don't think this either. Although had we been playing this well more consistently this wouldn't even been discussed)
7. NIT success shows that the basketball programs of ISU and Iowa are in the same boat (Technically, we both started out nearly in the same boat 3 years ago. Apathetic fan base, boring basketball to watch..... Where we differ is how we rebuilt our programs. Fred decided to take the transfer route and Fran decided to take the slower way with building the classes. Neither way is wrong just the way it happened. I admit I was skeptical at first on the way Fred chose to do it but can refute results.
8. NIT title game appearance means that Iowa bball program is more successful than programs that have not appeared in recent post season title game(Not even sure where this is coming from but if you want to believe that than go ahead.)
9. Iowa's 25 win season is more successful than all teams that have less than 25 wins this season(Not even close to being a true statement. Just like teams that have a better record than us happen to be a better team. We understand that some of our record was built on fluff teams. So should the Cyclones.)
10. Rival fan bases are jealous that Iowa is still playing(Again...you keep listening to the fringe.)

What I don't get is why Cyclone fans don't want to cheer on another team that is located within the state border even if it happens to be Iowa. I've actually watched quite a few games of the cyclones an hope you win them and think it sucks that you guys got screwed over (Kansas x3 and Ohio State X1)

Congrats on a great season. Iowa also happens to be having a good season. I think that it should be cause for celebration when a state the size of Iowa can actually support 2 large Div 1 teams in football and 4 division 1 in basketball when Minnesota and Nebbie only support one.

Not gonna lie, stopped reading after #3...

I see reading comprehension isn't one of your strong suits.

When someone posts 10 ridiculous statements made by Hok fans, your first post probably shouldn't be trying to justify some of them and then ask why can't we all just get along...

Actually, I try not to post but thought I should respond. Especially when you attribute them to all Hawkeye Fans (not HOK). Just like I respect your team with their proper name. I didn't think there was anything wrong with that. Apparently you do. duly noted.

You can post all you want but just don't see how you post that and then say you don't see why all ISU fans don't cheer for the mighty Hoks because we live in the same state...

Granted it was long winded but I don't think anything I wrote should have been offensive. Just pointed out the truths and untruths. Must not have read it and assumed that since I'm a Hawk fan it had to be derisive towards the cyclones when it couldn't be further from the truth.

Much like the entire countries position on the NIT we just don't care about your post.

Actually I read the first one where you tried to justify NIT final being better than losing first round of NCAA and the third one where it's not far fetched the Hoks will be a favorite for the B1G title next year. Then skipped down to the end and read that you don't understand why we wouldn't cheer for the Hoks and that was enough for me. Agree to disagree

I still have not seen any Iowa fan wishing they'd win the NIT rather than make the NCAA. This is starting to become an urban legend facilitated by roughly 3% (if that) of the CF poster population.

Take a trip to Muscatine some time. I had to smile and laugh at the bartender and 3 tavernhawks all jerking each other off about how much this NIT means to the program and how its so much better than an early exit fromt he NCAA tournament. You may not see it much if you're still residing in the mother land that is Ames, but for anyone trapped in the cesspool of eastern Iowa, its a daily routine to hear that tired argument. Hell, my coworkers havent shut up about how much better their NIT run is the an NCAA birth. They haven't really enjoyed the 69th best and special olympics medals comments however.

we can all agree NIT title game is better for team development than being one of the first four out. hell, no one watches those games either. here's the thing - you're playing fellow-NIT talent. the Cyclones lost some bad ones too, but you can't compare beating JV squads in the JV tourney to success at the varsity level. winning the JV tourney doesn't mean you should have made the varsity team.

Have not read the entire thead and don't know if someone has used this analogy or if it even is on topic. But how I see the seasons results between ISU and Iowa brings up the old high school question of is it better to have a chance with the prom queen knowing your best may not even get you to first base.....or end up with the bush hog where it doesn't take much to round the bases?

You mean last four in?

Exactly. There's definitely more happening than "enjoying" their team play.
Here's some of what we've heard:

1. NIT final better than NCAA 1 and done
2. NIT success implies guaranteed NCAA next year
3. Possible Big 10 title favorites next year
4. Can't understand why media isn't giving attention to the Big NIT event.
5. 4 star and 5 star recruits should be lining up to play for Iowa with the NIT success
6. NIT success shows that NCAA selection committee was wrong not to select Iowa
7. NIT success shows that the basketball programs of ISU and Iowa are in the same boat

9. Iowa's 25 win season is more successful than all teams that have less than 25 wins this season
10. Rival fan bases are jealous that Iowa is still playing

I must say I enjoyed this definition of hyperbole.

There wasn't anything offensive.

Problem is there are too many of your brethren that only have the mythology they have created to cover for being THE most insecure fan base in the country, that feel the need to come here and act like you matter, that has ruined the chance for any real mutual admiration.

Lord knows how many of the hawk fans in my life tried to pretend that osu played terrible, and that was the only way we stayed in the game.

Add the FACT that you have repeatedly benefitted from playing in a mediocre, at best, fb conference. And the nonsensical whining about how tough the b1g is, was incredibly annoying as well.

Good luck. But will still be rooting for the Bears, although I doubt I watch.

I beg to differ. There is 8 pages worth of threads dedicated to Iowa basketball since last night. I still have not seen any Iowa fan wishing they'd win the NIT rather than make the NCAA. This is starting to become an urban legend facilitated by roughly 3% (if that) of the CF poster population.

I think this is more wishful thinking from you than reality.

I caught a radio interview on an omaha station where Iowa's play by play guy talked about how this run through the NIT is "infinitely more valuable than making the NCAA as a low seed".

And didn't Miller tweet exactly that last week?

Of course he's going to pimp it up. Dolph has always been a homer. The value of playing 5 more games after the conference tournament cannot be undermined. Obviously a tourney berth would have been outstanding, but Iowa did the best with what they could. Calling it infinitely more valuable is a major overstatement, I agree.
