I get a bit of a clue. If the subject illustration is an actual person's photograph, I'm pretty sure it's 1800 or newer.

And a subset of that, sometimes if it's B&W or color photo, you can gauge whether it's late-19th or early-20th ... (sometimes). (As far as birth years).
