Thanks so much to @jbindm for this idea!!

He was thinking about actors who nailed a role so well that when you see them in anything else you still only think of them in that signature role. I think an obvious one is Daniel Radcliffe - he's worked so hard to have a diverse career, but he's always going to be Harry Potter.

What are some other roles where the actor nailed it so well that it kind of ruins them for anything else they appear in?

Kind of on topic. Sort of.

Leslie Neilsen had a 30 year career playing serious roles. Mostly B movies and second banana roles if I remember correctly.

Then Airplane! and the Police Squad and the Naked Gun movies happened and his play it serious over the top humor gained him greater fame.

After that, anytime I see any of his previous movies I find myself trying NOT to laugh when he delivers what are serious lines.

I think this will be tough for the marvel actors. I mean Robert Downey Jr will always be Iron Man (although it was basically him playing himself). Same with Chris Evans as Captain America

Yeah. Any actor who signs on to any kind of franchise or universe type of movie has to consider that. Like, it's great if it's a hit and it's going to make you mega-rich, but this is the character you're going to be associated with forever. You almost become too famous for anyone to take you seriously in any other role.

He had a very prominent role in Forbidden Planet that I remember well.

Use the force Luke!! Mark Hamill.

Hamill has had a pretty successful career otherwise as a voice actor, though.

I thought he would have been a great option as a recasted Joker after Heath Ledger, assuming they were going to go that way (and they obviously would not).
