Friday OT #2 - The Nines

Agree on Vegas, guess it's neat to see once but too many other places in the country/world to see before I'd want to go back.
I hear the word Vegas and all I can think of is a drunk bridesmaid in a bachelorette party, awkwardly walking in heels, with a fruity drink in hand drinking out of a penis straw, talking really loud and crying, with mascara running down her face. Probably saying she hates drama.

That exact scene is happening, multiple places, in Las Vegas at this very moment.

Kind of off topic but I think it's interesting that your location in the state has a lot to do with what cities you visit. When I lived in Northern Iowa we never once visited KC, we would always go to Minneapolis or Chicago for our big city fix. Now that we live in central Iowa we probably visit KC 5 times for every 1 time we visit Minneapolis. There are great things about both cities and so different.

1. Chicago
2. San Diego
3. Charleston
4. Denver
5. Portland, OR

Most Underrated City: Memphis

I thought Memphis was pretty cool when we were there for the bowl game. Not just Beale, either.

Boston - I had a great time here years ago. We did a historic pub crawl, went to a game at Fenway, visited the JFK Library, went whale watching, ate an incredible meal at this small brick-walled restaurant in Little Italy

Denver/Colorado Springs - love the outdoor vibe out there

Lahaina - I've only been to Maui, but I loved that place and have to include someplace tropical

San Fran - tons to do and the city has loads of character

This thread really got me to thinking. I couldn't come up with a favorite city. I live in one now, but I am never truly as relaxed as I am when I am alone in the country and I realize I am so relaxed because I hear no traffic sounds. Only hearing nature and no traffic is what I love and I find it in no city.

How is that for a non-answer?

No love for the Phoenix/ Mesa area? Cubs spring training and lots of hiking/ biking with beautiful scenery. Summers are scorching but nice the rest of the year.

The same same thing could probably be applied to Nashville and which is funny considering how popular it's been in this thread.

For my most recent birthday, Janny told me to pick anywhere in the continental 48 I wanted to go as my present. I had it narrowed down to Charleston and Portland, as I'd never been to either and was really fascinated by both. I still want to hit Charleston, but we're heading back to Portland in a few weeks because we loved it so much!

Going to the vampire strip club again;)?

I really enjoyed the historical aspects and country music part of Nashville.

I haven't been to Vegas, but I did really enjoy Nashville myself. This is probably dorky, but my favorite part was visiting the Hatch Print Show.

IDK what that is. I know I almost peed my pants totally sober walking back from Monnell's. That lemonade was too damn good. I was trying read the history of TN along their mall/parkish area and by the time we got to WWII I was like screw it I'm going to desecrate Polk's grave if I don't get back to the hotel.

Oh, actual fave part? Not sure, really enjoyed the Belle Meade tour and seeing the cannonball pockmarks on their columns.

I totally agree with all of that! We were there in February and it was gorgeous light-jacket weather. We were able to just go see all kinds of cool historical stuff, eat super-Southern food, haunted pub crawls, etc. It's gorgeous and so elegant. I had really wanted to go to Charleston because I figured it was the same (and Savannah was my favorite city in the US until I went to Portland), but I figured we'd try something totally new. I still would like to go to Charleston sometime soon and back to Savannah!

we went to Savannah over Memorial Day and didn’t love it. I found New Orleans to be more charming. Although the fact that it was the hottest Memorial Day weekend in 50 years might have something to do with it. It was miserable.

Looks like I screwed up the order of the name but the Hatch Show Print is a letter press print shop where they make music event posters and other advertisements. You can tour their facility which is right next to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. I thought it was great because I really enjoyed the telling of the shop's history which is intertwined through the history of Nashville and country music. Here is an example of what one of their prints looks like:
