John Belushi as Joe Cocker is tremendous. It's probably considered to be offensive now but Joe Cocker did sing with John Belushi while Belushi was imitating him during one skit.John Belushi didn't get as physical as Chris Farley but stuff like Samurai Deli and the Blues Brothers required his physicality to punch up the comedy, which it did.
I'm not an avid watcher anymore but it occurs to me that I think SNL is a lot less physical than in the early years. Martin, Belushi, Chase, all had really funny physical bits...and The Land Shark is one of the greatest bits...
Hey @SCyclone this may be more our time as kids. I haven't looked for clips. The Red Skelton show on Saturday nights as I recall. His mime routines made me laugh even though they were probably intended for viewers of my parents' age. Nothing bad or ribald, just good old-fashioned funny. With no words and lots of facial expressions and overacting, you couldn't help but pay attention. Ahh, I miss that type of comedy.
Jackie Gleason.
You bet your sweet bippy! The TV show Laugh-In was filled with physical comedians; Ruth Buzzi, Arte Johnson, and Goldie Hawn most notably.
The show itself had no profanity or sex acts but would not get by today's woke crowd.
