Friday OT #2 - Falling Into Categories

My CD collection has the following broad categories in general order by volume:

Pop/rock (largely but not exclusively stuff from the 60s to early 70s)

Country/folk (mostly traditional or alt country)

Jazz (my favorite era is hard bop (roughly mid 50s to mid 60s)

Reggae (including rock steady, mostly in a period from mid 60s to late 70s)

Blues

Latin (mostly salsa and dance music from 50s to 70s--Tito Puente was the king/ Classical/Soundtracks/some Indian and traditional Mexican music

On satellite radio, I often turn to late 50s early 60s pop music (in part b/c my wife likes this but I do too).

I will also turn to a lot of music on public radio, whether it be bluegrass or jazz.

What I don't like are classic rock radio stations (the same 300 songs played over and over for the last 40 years), bro-country stations (so formulaic), or in general, most contemporary music on the radio.

I am probably missing a lot of good music but I can't keep up with it all and a lot of my tastes are influenced by my age (or so I believe).

I probably default to alterative and acoustic, but I listen to about everything. Classical, blues, rock, some rap, some R&B, some pop, some country, some international, some musicals, some instrumental, some acapella. My daughter will clue me in to some TikTok-ers from time to time. Some are really good and some are terrible, but I'll always give it a shot.

I generally won't seek out jazz, electronic or gospel, but I'm always open to a good song and would never shut out a genre just based on the category.

I listen mostly to country but I also enjoy classic rock, older rap, pop music mostly 80's 90's and early 2000 but not so much of the current stuff. If it doesn't have a good beat or lyrics you can actually sing along with and have some kind of meaning I probably don't care to listent to it.

I lean towards classic rock and oldies. XM radio has a road trip radio station that is the best. It has the best of every genre.

OK, I renounce our twinship. When I want nitpicking, I go read something in French.

:mccaffery:

What's more, AZ lyrics says

Saturday night I was downtown
Working for the FBI
Sittin' in a nest of bad men
Whiskey bottles piling high
That's why I commented. I saw that said 'was.' My 15 year old ears heard 'went' on my tiny transister.

Pandora is set on Hair Bands! Sirus is set with Hair Nation, Ozzies Boneyard, and Tom Petty. Love me some 70's and 80's classic rock. Through in some heavy metal. Smattering of old school country, Tracy Lawrence, Sammy Kershaw, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Merle, Ronnie Milsap, B&D, even some Shania, Tanya T. No new country or Rap!!

I found my cd case from high school a few months ago. After I located a cd player, the nostalgia was fun. Also, my taste in music hasn't really changed much.

Yeah, well, mine said "a machine was ahold of my right". They also said that Jimi Hendrix sang, "'Scuze me while I piss this guy".

I misheard so many lyrics in that song when it was initially on radio/popular, without having a lyrics sheet. Including one of my all-time classic mishearings, of the title itself, originally thought it "Well I belong to a woman in a black dress."

To this day, my brain still sings "get it on" in the repeat at the end, instead of "had it all."

I tend to have playlists by genre with some of my favorites. (Nothing but Soul, Early Punk, Chill Indie, Random Hip Hop and Rap, etc.) I also have very era-based playlists (80s alternative, grunge, doo wop, early 00s rap).

I am as moody with music as I am with food, so having it organized helps me just pick one and go.

I don’t think we have ever just done a thread before on what genres of music everyone listens to most?

I listen to mostly indie and rap/hip hop, with some rock thrown in. Quite a bit of punk and jazz. That is a pretty wide swath, I guess.
I like blues rock and hard rock
