Friends after they got rid of the monkey and decided to stop being a comedy

Breaking Bad - 15 minutes into episode 1

Friends lost me when they tried to pair up Joey and Rachel. Horrible. Even the cast hated it.

I watched The Walking Dead until the bitter end. I had to see how they ended it. Sadly I couldn't tell you any details of what happened.
Stopped watching it after 6-7 seasons. It seemed like there was no plot after that. You can only watch so many zombies get their heads blown off before it becomes boring.

When I start to not like the characters or don't care for their fate or if the script/settings start to feel forced or really reaching.

Prime examples are Lost, Walking Dead and a few others. In those two instances I started being just fine when characters started getting killed off due to their annoyance. Fear the Walking Dead probably fits the bill for this than the original TWD; that just started feeling like they were parodying their own show.

House of Cards.

The first couple seasons are great but man how awful did that show get? Yet I watched to the bitter, and I do mean bitter, end.

I stopped when Claire spoke at the press conference for the Russian prisoner and acted completely opposite her character. I was so angry I shut it off and didn't watch another minute. All of a sudden the writers wanted her to feel guity and have a conscience when she's shown none up to that point. Hated it.

I was so disappointed in Fear because they had a perfect opportunity to show how society breaks down but instead they spent about 3 episodes on it and fast forwarded to The Walking Dead period. Not to mention the cast was nearly all easy to dislike.

There are already solid examples in this thread, but this one rings true - the writing in Sex and the City is just awful, the characters all awful and unlikable. The fashion is interesting, but not good enough to watch it.

But not only did I watch the s***ty series, I watched two s***ty movies AND the new abomination series. Oh, and there was a short-lived prequel. I don’t LIKE the show. But I have still seen all of this hot garbage, because I am a completionist. And maybe I think it will get better, deep in my back of my mind, I don’t know.
That's the hook, isn't it? I always think in the back of my mind that it's going to get better. I took TWD and Lost to the bitter ends, even though the "resolutions" pissed me off. :D

They just started the second half of Fear TWD this past week. I'll begrudgingly watch it till the end

The Office was terrible after Micheal left but I kept waiting for it not suck until the last season I finally gave up.
I partially agree here. I used to do the exact same thing but I've changed my position slightly. I've come to love the Robert California character and time period after Michael left. There are still many garbage episodes in the post-Michael era, btw.

X-files is probably the last I watched to the bitter end. Even the bad reboot a few years ago. Still like the show but nothing ever was resolved.
I have no problem dropping a show in the middle now. Don't have time for that BS.
I did torture myself with the last Star Wars movie though. I just wanted to drive the stake completely though and be done.

Gotta agree on most of this. One thing about X-Files though is I can always throw a rerun on and enjoy watching it again. I feel like maybe the last Star Wars would have been better if Carrie Fisher hadn’t died.

I can’t remember when I quit TWD. At some point I started rooting for the zombies and felt that wasn’t healthy.

One show I quit watching and not sure why other than life was busy at the time was Once Upon a Time. I always somewhat enjoyed it but not enough to watch episodes I missed and recorded. At one point I considered it and thought meh, I am too far behind.

I even thought it started to slide before Michael's exit and I started to drift on it.

But yeah I watch a lot of the reruns on Comedy Central and the last twoish seasons several episodes are the employees taking turns talking about some project or problem they need to solve like they're trying to make sure everyone gets a line or two.

The finale was actually really good though imo.

Thanks so much to @Farnsworth for this topic!

“At what point do you give up on a show you are interested in? Do you feel the need to hold out to see how it ends?”

I will let him give his example, but I tend to be sort of a completionist - with books, movie series, and TV shows. There was no reason to watch the last season of Scrubs, but I had committed to it.

How about you?
I gave up on Blacklist when I realized that it was going to be one of those never ending stories, where they keep teasing a big reveal in the next episode, but it never comes. I hate shows like that, where the main plot line keeps getting shunted to the side while they go off on these tangents that may or may not add to the main plot line. Series like Lost or Manifest come to mind. I want to know how they got lost. I want to know why their plane came back years later with everyone older except for the passengers.

Maybe a bit different than the original intention of question but I never missed an episode of Survivor for like the 1st 26 seasons. Loved the show early. But they eventually lost me and I don't think I've watched an episode since. Just got too repetitive for me; even with all the twists they kept added to try to keep it from getting too stale.

They must be doing enough things right though to still be getting renewed at 45 seasons so far.

I really liked "Roseanne" until her character won the lottery. Then it was just lame.

The finale of the office was absolutely perfect.
