Friday Night Wrestle Offs

Biggest one for me was the spread on Parker over Cam. Did Parker catch him in something?

I agree. Without seeing anything, I’d guess Parker just got inside and Cam couldn’t use the length. Strength and experience won.

That’s my guess, but I’m still as surprised by the score as you are.

I wasn't throwing him under the bus or at least I didn't mean it that way I edited the original post after re reading it
You didn’t, simply provided the result. Some people so sensitive.

this is not a good result though, am I wrong? Someone tell me about Fuesley I’ve honestly never heard of him.

Not sure how to say this, so I just will. Solid wrestler. Good room guy. Knopick shouldn’t get beat there.
Not concerned at all. Except for the top blue chips freshmen need to redshirt. If Terkuna and Redding would have redshirt last year they would have won a ton of matches and we’d all be excited about there future.

IIRC it was very workman like out of Parker. In typical Parker fashion he controlled all positions and was much better on his feet. Parker looked very quick and had great balance in that match. I also expected a closer match in that one. Who knows... Maybe they know each other and Parker's a vet who knows how to stay out of Cam's strengths.

It was a free year last year for Terkuna and Redding they don't miss a year. Same for Carr he can still get 4 look at everyone that is back this year.

Your post doesn’t make sense. Terukina was a national qualifier and beat out Mackall. Redding was ranked top 15 and national qualifier. These guys were ready to go and they were far from blue chippers. They weren’t losing to guys that will never sniff the mat.

I’ll be the one to overreact, but im concerned. Knopick should be winning that match fairly easily. I wonder if the fact lots of his high school success was in Greco isn’t a bad sign for his folkstyle potential. I hope not.

To be fair, Mackall never really looked right last year before he walked away.

Agreed. Let’s hope this was an off night.
Didn’t Carr lose an early match in his first year of college wrestling?

I might not be remembering correctly, but regardless, there is a transition that must happen for all the new guys and maybe that’s what happened with Knopick.

David did lose, yes…to Peyton Mocco. Definitely a surprise, but considering Mocco went 13-3 at 174 last year, not necessarily the same thing.

Carr lost at Harold Nichols Open in I believe his first match to Peyton Mocco if I'm remembering correctly.

I understand that it was a free year and it didn’t matter regarding eligibility. The comments regarding Terikuna weren't favorable. To the point that we are wondering if Knopick could start year 1.

You should only start freshmen if they are a shoe in for AA or you have no other options. Our two representatives at 125 and 133 were never going to AA last year. ISUs success should never be measured in NQs. That’s a symptom of how far we have fallen.

I’m not worried about Knopick. Didn’t see the match. Not even sure what his size is at this point in his career. I‘ll give him some time before I hit the panic button. Ideally you store a kid like this away until he’s a redshirt sophomore and is vying to crack the lineup.

Parker big brother’d him. He was bigger stronger faster and Cam had nothing for him. I wouldn’t put much stock in the loss for Cam I think he’s going to be great for the Cyclones, I could just tell he was beat from the jump. He was hesitate and looked like he knew what the outcome would be already. Can’t wait to see Cam continue to develop but Parker is going to be a hammer this year. How he isn’t an AA yet... no clue.

This is a real good description of how I would have imagined it. Cam has the physical tools. He needs to get there mentally, and a redshirt year should be great for him. All I want to see is for him to be aggressive. Tentative wrestling against a guy like Parker? No chance.
