Friday 5: Cereal

Not a big cereal eater but the ones below are my tops!

1) Cap'n Crunch and Cap'n Crunch Crunch Berries
2) Golden Grahams
3) Life
4) Raisin Bran Crunch
5) Apple Jacks

Don't know that I can rank just 5. I wasn't allowed to eat sweetened cereal as a kid, so I eat it now. But, I'll throw in the healthy stuff regularly, too.

I'd say for sweetened, really anything that makes the milk chocolate in the end would top my list. For the healthy stuff, anything that has raisins, cranberries, peaches in it works for me.

Non sweetened:
Grape Nuts
Wheat Chex
Bran Flakes (SANS RAISINS - I HATE RAISINS)
Cheerios
Kix

Sweetened:
Sugar Pops
Capn Crunch
Froot Loops
Honey Smacks
Trix

1.) Cocoa Pebbles

2.) Cocoa Pebbles

3.) Waffle Crisp

4.) Cinnamon Toast Crunch

5.) Cocoa Pebbles

I cannot stand sugared cereal stuff now. I have memories of me as a little boy sprinkling sugar on cereal and cannot imagine doing that today. I even wish my Raisin Bran didn't have sugar on the raisins. Raisins are already sweet, why do you need to encrust them with sugar? It's like sugaring grapes and who does that?

In no particular order:

Cap'n Crunch
Froot Loops
Apple Jacks
Lucky Charms
Golden Grahams

I haven't ate cereal in years. It always sounds unappealing and it never satisfies, but in my younger days I loved Apple Jacks, Honey Nut Cheetios, and cinnamon toast crunch.

Was going to have to neg rep you for the raisins comment (I love a cinnamon raisin bagel).

But you more than redeemed yourself with the ranking of Sugar Pops #1. Sing it, sister!

1. Sugar Pops
2. Reeses Choc/Peanut butter balls (I don't really know what it's called, but even the generic is great)
3. The frosted shredded wheat, bite size - I actually probably eat this the most
4. Honey Nut Cheerios, but for some reason they give me heartburn sometimes
5. Really any pre-sweetened cereal

We also didn't get the sweetened cereals growing up. Made up for it as an adult.

I remember one of my Dad's was shredded wheat with butter. He'd melt about 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine (he called it "oly") and then crumble a large biscuit of shredded wheat into the pan. Add salt and mix. Basically what is now the Triscuit.

In order:

1. Cinnammon Toast Crunch
2. Reeses Puffs
3. Frosted Flakes
4. Cap'n Crunch
5. Trix/Froot Loops

Not to criticize your vocabulary, or anything, but in Northeast Iowa, when I was a kid, no one said CEREAL. We talked about breakfast FOOD.

That said, I was always a big fan of AlphaBits before they changed it. Now it tastes like sugared chemicals. Probably the secret about that is that they all do.

I guess if I were being force-fed, I'd have Shredded Wheat.

Otherwise, a bagel and peanut butter, please. With an orange and maybe a side of yogurt.

I still like the sugary stuff, although only a few ... perhaps a strange counterbalance to that, I rarely put sugar on unsweetened cereal, and haven't since probably my early teens.

Ironically, I won't eat oatmeal from those individual pouches. They are way too sweet for my taste. I'll make it from the big cylindrical box and add some brown sugar, honey, or both - and maybe some raisins or craisins.

And I would never eat Grape Nuts. It's the consistency of gravel from the county road. My roommate used to eat it and I'd have to turn on the tv or radio to drowned out the loudness of the crunching.
