Fred

Fred didnt even wear a tie that season because of his heart. Maybe it was too much pressure for Fred and his family in Ames.
Ah BS. There is way more pressure in the NBA and especially in a market like Chicago. Fred fed the fans a line of bull on the way out to make it seem like he was only doing this because it was always his dream to coach in the NBA and he wasnt sure how long he could do it. Now he's on to his next "dream job". Fred's done a lot for ISU and ISU has done a lot for Fred. All's even. But my days of cheering for him are done.

Is that a legacy though? Probably one hundred coaches with a sweet 16 on their resumes today.

I think legacies can be a subjective matter. Fred being a hometown hero certainly helps burnish his credentials, such as they are.

I was pissed at first about Fred to Nebby, but as long as we beat them in recruiting battles, I really don't care now. He has a fun style of play to watch. I can't blame a guy for taking the job at Nebraska. He gets paid a boat load of money, great resources at Nebby, has family connections, and if he wins an NCAA game he is a legend there. Hope he does well but loses every recruiting battle against us.

I see what you did here.

Ann Campbell is the only person I call "former Mayor of Ames!"

I agree so much with the Johnny comment. Fred had the opportunity to be arguably the most important figure in ISUs athletic lore. He left in a very ugly fashion that still amazes me. It's my opinion so don't even try to change it. I defended Fred on everything. I started multiple posts about not dogging on Fred's coaching that some did. I had been a long time season ticket holder driving 2 hours each way for every game for 15 years. The Michigan game with Johnny there was the most special of moments. Good ole days. Steve Prohm has shown so much of what it means to be a Cyclone. I'm happy he is ISUs coach.

Ditto !!!!!!!!

This, plus beating the Hoks 1-3 times a year!

I wonder what the implode here will be if Fred doesn't just win "a" NCAA tournament game but somehow takes Nebraska to a Final Four and their bogas-ass fans start getting all smug about it to us. Effin hate Nebraska fans.

I don't care what Fred or Nebraska does. However ... I will find humor when he crushes little brother, either in Lincoln or iowa city. Hearing the lamentations of their fanbase is truly refreshing.

I think everyone needs to take a step back from the "traitor Fred" train. He brought this program back from the grave and turned it into a national name. He gave us incredible moments that we will remember forever and brought in guys to the program we have all grown to love. He made a business decision and it did not end the way he thought it would. He went to coach one of the biggest brands in the NBA... that's pretty impressive. He loves ISU and always will. I truly believe he did not want to take a few other jobs because he knew the Bama job could be opening up and Prohm could be a front runner, which could open up a possibility of him coming back. And he's definitely pandering to Husker fans right now but he should! He's trying to make that program love them like we did. I wish him the best of luck and personally can't wait to watch him play the Hawkeyes twice every year.
