Fraschilla Sure Thinks Monte Has An NBA Future

Hopefully he speaks with Fred, and Fred says wait 1 more year, Monte.

Burke's playing 23 minutes a game and scoring 11+ a game for the Jazz. And next year's ISU roster isn't going to help his draft stock. Niang, Nader and McKay know exactly where to be for a Morris assist. Yes, he'll probably score more but I don't see his assists or assists/turnovers being nearly as good passing to a bunch of newbies and I think it's going to be a frustrating year @ISU compared to this year.

Yeah and that's all he'll ever be. That's not what you pick in the top 20. Do you really think the NBA doesn't weigh the roster around a college player?

He should declare and not hire an agent. If he gets feedback that he is a late second rounder (45 or later) then you come back.

didnt they change the rules that you can go to the combine now and workout for teams and still come back? I think
Yes. He can go to the pre-draft workout and get evaluated and then come back if he doesn't like what he hears (and doesn't hire an agent).

Rajon Rondo went #21 overall after averaging 11 ppg, 4.9 apg, shooting 29% from three, 48% overall and 57% from the free throw line and has been a 4x NBA All Star and 2 time NBA assists leader. And he's only 6'1" and a generous 175. Morris will play in the NBA

Rondo also had a 6'9 wingspan. His wingspan made him one of the best guard defenders for a 5 year stretch. He also has bigger hands than Lebron James.

Plus he played on one of the worst Kentucky teams of all time. They were awful.

Offensively Monte is good enough to play in the league as a backup. Defense is his question mark right now.

You're trying to make a general draft rule and you just can't. The NBA rosters and the NBA rookie wage scales are small enough that teams just use their picks to fill the holes they have and if they don't have any holes, they either draft and stash a foreign player or trade their pick for a future pick. If they have to use pick #9 or #16 and their big need is backup PG then that's what they're taking. There isn't the pressure to get a certain level of player out of a certain range of Draft pick like their is in the NFL Draft. There are some drafts where there simply aren't any impact players in an entire draft. Ben Simmons is probably the only guy in the 2016 Draft that I'd put money on being an NBA ALL Star at some point in their career.

Did his awful teammates at Kentucky force him to shoot 27% from three and 50-something % from the free throw line? Rondo still has only shot better than 30% from three twice in his 9 year NBA career and has never shot 70% from the free throw line. He actually finished last season at 39.7%. It still just shows that Morris' alleged weakness of shooting isn't going to keep him out of the NBA. The guy can do what NBA teams need a PG to do which is run a team, put players in position to score and take care of the ball. Go scan some 2 deep NBA rosters and look at who has backup PG jobs in the NBA right now. Am I really having to argue with ISU fans about how Morris has an NBA future?!? Bizarro Land.

Probably about a handful of posters on this board follow NBA basketball but everyone has an expert opinion, so no, it's not odd.

The biggest thing that sticks out to me, watching MM this year, was his game against Washpun. Washpun was really physical with MM, and took him out of his game, both offensively and defensively. There aren't a lot of PG/SG combos like Washpun in college, with his strength and quickness. But there are a lot in the NBA.

MM, at this point, is probably a mid-second round pick, IMHO. That's not guaranteed money. He really needs to get the strength level up to guard more physical players. If i were advising him as a financial agent, i'd tell him to get in the weight room and do everything you can to bulk up and have a monster senior year. I think that is the only way he makes it into the first round.

Or Hoiberg urges MM to do a grad transfer and get a year in under Self! THAT'D be a kick to the stones.

If MM graduates before next season he's gone regardless. I've not heard that this is the case. No redshirt so I doubt it.

I was commenting on what made Rondo special. Rondo's teammates didn't force him to shoot 29% but they also didn't allow him to showcase what makes him a very unique player. That was my point. I don't think the comparison between Morris and Rondo is valid at all. They are two completely different players in every single way, minus height, which isn't a fair comparison either with Rondo having a 6'9 wingspan.

Monte's weakness isn't his shot either, it's his ability to defend.

I never said Morris isn't going to play in the NBA either.

This has literally never happened

Not Niang, but there were plenty of people on here who expected Ejim and Kane to get drafted in the 1st round based on their play.

People couldn't figure out why Marble was getting drafted and our guys weren't.

Link? Everything I have seen CW say points to Monte returning. Given this was when Monte wasn't playing well, but I've not seen CW say he was leaving.

He was saying it was almost certain he was gone, even if he wasn't going to get drafted.
